I remember seeing a S&W PC 686 that had ivorylike grips and a slab barrel a few years ago. What was it called? How much are they now? I want a short barrel fancy revolver for once in a while. I been looking for a 2 1/2 inch Python but I don't want to spend three grand.

The 686PC has a slab barrel, with a flat, tapered lug. It is similar to the 8-shot 627PC, but with 6 shots and a 4" barrel.

I handled one only after buying a 4" 686 with a full lug. I only wish I had waited. The PC action has all the benefits of S&W charm school, and the balance is perfect.

Not to pick nits, but has there ever been a PC 686?

Check out the 686SSR, it's the current production with the slab sides and tapered bbl profile.

Yes. actually, they did

Uhhh, Yes, there have been several.

To Narkcop's original question, I believe he's actually talking about the K frame "Super K", from the description - that being short barrel and ivory like grips.... or maybe not...

Otherwise, there were several L frames with slab barrels.... technically I suppose all L frames will qualify due to the full lug barrel, but here are a few notable models of early PC production:

The last pic is of the Hunter, but the Competitor is very close, just missing the porting.

The PC has made several M686 variations, the examples above are all early, before they adjusted/improved the engineering to accomodate the additional safety equipment :)

That is a bunch of different PC 686s! I'm surprised I haven't stumbled on a couple of those over the years here.

This to me screams 686 SSR.

The PC made a 686 chambered in 38 Super with a slab sided barrel. They also made the 646 in 40 S&W with both a standard and slab sided barrels. I shoot both.

Yes it was a Model 66 Super K that I'm looking for.

SuperK

The Super K was a pretty cool model, didn't much care for the grips - but they certainly stood out compared to either rubber grips or the later day wood blocks the factory used,
