629 stealth hunter matte finish

I am proud to be a part of this forum. The expertise in the threads and answers makes me realize how much I have to learn....So, I have a question.
I have acquired a 629 matte finish stealth hunter.
Realizing that this is a stainless revolver with a baked on matte finishi am wanting to know if I can use a "lead free" cleaning removal cloth on this matte finish or would it remove the finish as well? If I cant use the lead free cloth to remove the fired on gunpowder on the cylinder and muzzle as I do on the stainless revolvers , whats the preferred cleaning method. Thanks a lot.

Good question and one that I do not know to. However, I use MPro7 to get the carbon off of my stainless guns, so would also use it for the stainless guns with a protective finish. i have a lead free cloth, but find I don't really need to use it is the MPro7 is easier to use than the cloth.

I believe that your revolver has the Birdsong Black-T finish.
I had this finished put on a 639 and nothing would touch it. So slick that most everything wiped off.
As for the lead removing cloths, you might want to check with Birdsongs to eliminate any concerns.

Thanks nightowl. I will try that MPro 7. Been shooting along time ( I'm old) and always used Hoppes #9.
Sounds like you are really satisfied with the MPro so I'm getting ready to order some.

Yes, Taroman, you hit it right on the nose. I called S & W and also Black T company and they confirmed what you told me. It's a beautiful revolver and i want to clean it up really pretty ...gotta sellit. Only been fired 6 rounds.
