Just picked up a 460xvr and a Leupold VX-3 2.5x8x32 handgun scope. Would like some advice on what are the best bases & rings to mount it. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Weigand Combat Weig-A-Tinny scope base With Recoil Shoulder.

Smith Wesson scope mount X frame .500 .460

I would put 3 Burris Z rings on the scope, and the 4th if you had room.

I have been using 3 Burris Z rings on my Contenders for years with a 6 hole Weaver style T-S-O-B Base. The Weigand base with recoil shoulder would be my first and only choice for an X Frame, or Super Redhawk.

I have been using the Leupold base and rings on a Leupold FX-II for several hundred rounds. I just mounted the VX-III and have put 20 rounds through it. We will see how the heavier scope works out.

I talked with the Leupold Tech and he said there have been no issues with this setup. Use plenty of Loc-Tite.;)

Can't speak to base, my 460 didn't need one. Spoke to the guys at Warne, who are neighbors to Leupold, before I mounted. They did X Frame testing with a bunch of different scopes. Based on what they said, I wound up returning the scope I bought and got the exact same scope you have and used 3 Warne rings to mount. They said whatever I used I would probably have to rezero the scope after 60 or so rounds. I have far more than 60 rounds through the gun, scope is still right on the money, and very happy with the setup.
