Was looking at this gun yesterday at a local gun show. Going back today with cash. Question. Did this gun come with Hogue grips or flat sided wood S&W combat grips or BOTH? It has both, and the seller states that is the way it came "from the factory" 98 % condition, blue plastic box numbered to gun, and all papers. He's asking $1400, which I think is way to high. I'm thinking $1200? Sorry, did not get a picture. Any thoughts?

Allegedly my 629-4 Backpacker only came with the Hogue grips with silver S&W inserts. That is what I was told by the seller.

629-4 3" Alaska Backpacker Grip question? Offer price?

They made 2 "Alaska Backpckers" 629-4 and 629-5. Both shipped to V.F. Grace in Alaska. Both prefixed "NLT"

The 629-4 " Alaska Backpacker" should have shipped with hogue rubbers.
Shipped March 1998. 1 of 500

The 629-5 " Alaska Backpacker II" shipped with hogue boot grips
Shipped in 2000. 1 of 300

I saw one that had a RMA009X s/n and a date code of January 26, 1998. It was a 3-inch M629-4, unfluted cylinder, Mag-Na-Ported, Hogue grips. It was made for GART Sports.

The product code was 103611, which is different from either of your AK BP's (148083 & 103689). The RMA gun may of been an Alaskan Backpacker, not Alaska BP. I know I've seen it both ways.

THANKS for the great info and pictures. I came home with it. My pictures are not as nice as yours, but you get the idea. Mine is #145!!! Wonder how it ended up in Southeast Missouri.

2 serials away! Wowzers. That's is very cool. I picked mine up from Texas......these Alaskan's must like the south. Mine will have to get used to the cold again here in Wisconsin.

Did you get your information on each editions unit numbers, Backpacker I 500 units, Backpacker II 300 units, from Smith & Wesson or from V. F. Grace? Thanks!
