I think this is funny as all get out... mainly because all I can do is laugh at the absurdity of it.

1st wrong... this recently acquired 625-8 JM. Like many of the current revolvers, S&W can't seem to get the barrels on where they aren't over tightened and cant the front sight to the left. Rather than immediately send it back, I took it to the range and found that while the front sight leaned to the left in the rear sight notch, I could shoot it pretty decently.

After seeing how many people have sent their guns back to S&W only to have them returned with frame wrench marks and nothing much else to show for it, I decided that it wasn't worth the cat & mouse game a number of people have played with S&W service to little satisfaction, and decided to just put up with it since it shoots well.

2nd wrong... I hated the gold bead front sight, so I bought a green Hi-Viz. Holy cow, it has an issue too, When viewed from the muzzle end it's leaning slightly to the left (from the rear it would be toward the right). The factory sight blade didn't do that. :(

Which in turn, has made everything right...:D a nicely aligned, parallel front sight in the rear sight notch, I can't wait to try it out at the range!!

You stepped in it twice and came out smelling like a rose. That just doesn't happen to me. Hope it works out and shoots well.

:(This is a recently acquired 'new' gun from Smith? Makes me shake my head.

Looks like HiViz could be a little wider to fill the rear sight notch up?
Does that muzzle crown look OK to you? Almost looks chipped up in the image to me.......I hope not!

I hope you and the quirks of this gun can come together and be on target, curious on the outcome:) Good luck!

It's a 625-8 JM that I've only had for a few months and out to the range once, when I decided that the gold bead front sight that came with it had to go.

The Hi-Viz front sight, I just got and installed it today. The camera makes it look much narrower than what it really is.

Yes... the crown looks to have burrs from the rifling process, it was not that evident until the burnt gun powder highlighted it. I'm going to fix that myself, I have an crowning reamer from Brownells.

Tell folks how your friend Jerry M did you a favor and set up your gun like his with his secret sights that adjust for the Coriolis Effect due to the rotation of the earth. Yea, that's the ticket.

I'm taking the high road here.

Hopefully it shoots straight for ya. I suspect you missed these things when you purchased it but I don't think I could live with it unless she's hitting squarely. I guess the good news is it's under warranty should you go that route.

I have to plead guilty of not catching the issues with the barrel when I bought... caulk it up to only buying 2 IL guns in the last 17 years, with the 625-8 JM being the second one.

I just haven't gotten into the habit of remembering the need these days to go over a brand new gun with a fine tooth comb, I'm still used to the days of not needing to give that a second thought when buying a S&W.

It does shoot straight, I was happy with that from the start and reason why I was less inclined to send it back, but the rear sight blade did need to be cranked way over to the left to shoot center... I'm hoping that the next range session will find me cranking it back to the right and having the rear blade centered in the sight.

Hindsight is something else isn't it.

I was at my LGS yesterday and Smith must have made a run of PC revolvers as they had the 627, 629, 686 on the shelves. I looked at the bloodwork 627 and thought it looked good. The barrel looked mounted right but I could have missed something just the same.

I've wanted one for a long time when they weren't available, and was real tempted since I was selling and had cash in hand. Im thinking on it though.

Settling for poor quality is not in my nature. When a manufacturer is not held accountable for their lack of quality control, they will continue same. Lifetime warranties don't make up it for either. I have not bought a new gun from S&W since 1993, and there are none in my future. Of the last four revolvers I purchased, the "newest" was made in 1956, and the quality of them is superb.

After reading just how many people here on this site alone have canted barrels and cock-eyed sights you would think the Factory would get the message and rectify this after so many complaints. Guess they find it acceptable. :(

Like I have always said " All the planning in the world could never account for dumb luck "
