It's this a cracked frame?

Thought I would Polish the 629 a little today and discovered this, I'm pretty upset. The crack goes from the side and around to the rear near the hammer. Never shot anything but regular factory loads, it's a 629-6, any ideas of what I can do?

Thanks for that.:D
I wondered the same thing when I bought my first 686, although, luckily I didn't publicize it. This hobby has a huge learning curve.

I'll probably screw something up right after posting this, but with you tube and forums and everything else out there, how can someone do this to a gun? Take time, learn. Oh, and Wild Bill 44, you are not the first one of us to have their heart in their throat when first seeing something like this. Been there, done that. It feels so good when it turns out to be normal.

If you decide to take your side plate off check with someone on this forum first on how to do it, if you don't already know. My method, remove grips then side plate screws then tap lightly on frame with rubber covered handle of mallet.

Can you shoot the gun accurately? If so, don't worry about small dings that really do not effect the performance in any way. A gun is a tool to be used, so shoot it and enjoy owning that great gun.

At least once every few months someone asks this same question.

Though in this case the sideplate is pretty beaten up. Not supposed to remove the sideplate from that spot. Did you remove the sideplate, or did you buy it used like that?

Suggests to me that someone who doesn't know what they were doing got inside that revolver. I always stay away from a used revolver with a dinged up sideplate or beaten up screws, means someone who didn't belong inside got in there and who knows what he did.

I have made worse looking side plates look better! It takes time, but don't worry about it! Just shoot it and enjoy it!

If it bothers up that much take it to a gunsmith and see what he thinks about it! Another replacement side plate can always be fitted and slight fiddling (filing/stoning) with the frame can make it look 95% better!

I bought it used and never removed the side plate, thus the reason I didn't even realize it was there. Glad this thread brightened up most of your days. Moderator can delete now, lol.
