I have been thinking of getting into the Harry Reeves Revolver Match but I have run into a problem. Now that Jim Clark Jr. died Clark Custom no longer offers the package. They are still offering a couple guns from old inventory but at $1,600 the price is high. I was thinking of just getting a 6 inch 686 instead for $650 OTD. So should I get the 686?

Thanks for the help.

The 686 would be a great gun for the match, "but" what Clark did to the guns is what made them worth $1600. Flawless trigger jobs, timing set, B/C gap set for optimum, probably re-barreled with heavy match barrel, barrel recess crowned, etc. Is that all needed for the match? No, but if you are good enough to take advantage of the tuning it could make the difference in where you place in the match.

I've been considering it myself. I shoot pretty good with two hands, but off-hand is not so hot. I think it was July 12 when the match was shot at Camp Perry. I'm going to shoot a K-38 that I already have and spend the money on match ammo. When I can outshoot that K-38, then I'll think about a custom gun. At my current skill level, that may be a while! LOL
Good Luck!

Gotta agree with SW UCLA, get a nice undamaged older model 14 or a nice underluged 14-5 or -6 , have a nice action job on it and then buy or load good ammo. Good luck

Roger that. I used this 68 in the distinguished revolver match this year and legged out. I also used it in the Harry Reeves match with factory wadcutters. I think a 14 or 19 is about perfect weight and balance-wise for one-handed revolver shooting.
