Semichrome or FLITZ???????

I've only used Flitz. It works very well. I polish guns and my knife collection. Flitz has a protective effect as well as a light abrasive.

I've used both on mag wheels and they work about the same. There was another product in the past I haven't seen in a while "Ouater" pronounced water. All work as advertised, the only thing missing is elbow grease.

Haven't tried Semichrome but I like the Flitz.
Also use Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish...seems to work about the same as Flitz...maybe a little more aggressive than Flitz.

Simichrome, Flitz, and Mother's Mag are all comparable products.
If you can't find one, either of the others will do. Yeah, they remove metal, as any polish will. But they are micro-abrasive -- hardly more than toothpaste -- and you'll wear out an elbow before you make a dimensional difference in any part you polish.

Simichrome is what I grew up with, using it on motorcycles in the late 60's & early 70's to polish the aluminum engine cases and other assorted areas. As previously mentioned, most polishing creams like Semichrome and Flitz very similar, in fact I've used those and one called Maas that was sold in Walmart... can't distinguish the results between them.

My brother used Flitz to give his SR-1911 a nickel like mirror polish.

There was one called Wenol, from Germany. It was pinkish because it contained Jeweler's Rouge, which is softer than the micro fine alumina oxide in Flitz. Simichrome might also be rouge.

Found It! Wenol Metal Polishes, Wenol Red

I have used Flitz, Simichrome, and Mother's Mag. I agree that Mother's seems a bit more aggressive than the other two. I don't see any difference between Flitz and Simichrome. As noted, all are mildly abrasive and should be used with care. Test on a small preferably hidden spot before attacking the entire gun.

Semichrome is pretty amazing stuff. Similar to a product that used to be out called Autosol. I used to use it to polish aluminum parts on my Harley's. I once bought an old sportster cheap because it was so corroded. A little bit of sanding, some fine steel wool, and some semichrome and the guy I bought it from thought I had replaced everything with chrome.
