"N" frame round to square butt conversion grips? Suggestions? Jaruwan?
I want to put a set of "N" frame round to square butt TARGET conversion grips on my 4" round butt Mountain Gun, to better fit it in the existing inserts of a factory S&W 4" Presentation Case. Can any of you suggest a set? Are the ones on the bay sold by Jaruwan the correct size? Is the fit ok? Any others to suggest? THANKS!

John Culina had a set of his beautiful custom grips in stock the other day. He make some beautiful grips. Keith Brown does also, but harder to get.

I bought 2 sets of target grips from Jaruwan.p on fleabay. The first set was for a Ruger RH. They would not fit and had to be dremmeled to remove material.
The second was for a Taurus Tracker. These grips were too loose and I had to use a shim.
That having been said, both sets of grips are now solid and both look good, too.

You can go from the Taiwan made grips (which I have seen some really nice examples of) to Altamonts, to Culinas (top notch) on even have some custom stags made. And a lot of others scattered about in between.
From what I've seen of the Taiwan made, most are pretty nice, with a **** thrown in every now and again. I'm an in-between guy, that can't afford Culina type grips on all on my guns, but the set I do have is stunning.
I'm more of an Altamont budget guy, so the Taiwanese have me considering them as well. I hope to see some examples from your thread. It's a question that's been on my mind as well.

Consider giving the Altamont Ropers a try.
I have them on my K frames, and just bought a set of N Frame round to square butt for my 657. I like the fit in my hand much better than factory targets.

This set came from Jaruwan.p (pretty sure) They do the job. Have tried Altamont round to square conversions. They just did not feel right. Are in my grip box. These have been the best for me so far! Bob

I bought these round to square butt targets from Jaruwan. They aren’t perfect but, they fit well, feel good, and for the price I am very pleased with them. Considering that they are shipped from Taiwan, shipping times are very reasonable.

I could not find any wooden k/l grips that looked or felt right On this 686-4 hogglegg. Whittled down a Thai set of N frame grips to fit. Now the grips are plenty hefty enough for a good single or double handed purchase. Couldn’t have justified whittling on some expensive grips, but hey, these worked out just fine!
I know they don’t look professional, as an old chicken farmer friend used to say: “I’m growing, not showing!”
ETA: ordered a set of k frame square from Jaruwan.p last week.
Estimated delivery..... 1st week of October. Have recently purchased 4 sets from forum members, all looked like new and arrived within a week.

That’s a great idea. The n-frame targets fit me better than k targets, and I couldn’t bring myself to injure a factory offering.
I might even ask the vendor if that service could be provided, thanks for the idea and pics !

If you are truly looking to show the gun off in a presentation case then you should spend the extra few bucks & call Jennifer Culina to see what they have available. I couldn't settle for Taiwan 'maybe it'll fit maybe it won't' grips on a gun I was going to show off. I've shown this one on here many times, here it is again. My 629-4 Mountain Gun with Culina Coco bolas.

Spent a solid 15 minutes dremeling the grips , another 15 minutes polishing/waxing ....
Very amateurish skills needed.....easily accomplished

I've found grips from a maker on eBay have been working really well. They are from Malaysia but look great and fit great. Average price has been $45 including shipping and they take about 15 days to arrive. Just do an eBay search and you'll find him pretty quickly. He makes stocks for dozens of different types of guns. All of his prices range from $35 to $65, Depending on the wood used.
I've bought grips for many different types of S&Ws and Rugers and never had a set that didn't fit right out of the box.

Those are Ahrends grips. Unfortunately, they're out of business, but there are still a few NOS Ahrends grips on eBay - see seller: Gripseller
The Ahrends grips (including their round to square butt) are excellent. So sad that they're no longer a going concern.

Got Culina's for my 629-4 Mountain Gun years ago and never looked back. The factory rubber grips were too thin for my large hand and would cause numbness after a couple of cylinders. Tried the factory RB to SB conversions and they didn't have the N frame square butt feel. Found the Culinas and they have the Coke profile and the feel I was looking for. Also, they are wider at the back and the recoil is spread over a larger area thus making them more comfortable to my hands.

Not wanting to split hairs but I believe Jaruwan is in Thailand not Taiwan.
Just saying.

I know not everyone can afford Culinas, but they are worth every penny. I found a 19-4 that had some work done to it on Gunbroker a while back. It had a Target trigger installed and the standard trigger was ground and polished smooth. It also had a RB conversion done. Was wearing Pach's when I got it and I immediately contacted Jennifer to see if they had anything RB to SB available, got lucky.

I have a set of jaruwan p's that were actually on the one I pictured above. They are well worth the price and if you like them that much, good on ya. That said, there is no comparison between them and Culina's.

Been away sorry. Bought those right off the S&W website. They were called Walnut presentation grips round to square butt, that was about 12 years ago. I know they still have them.
