I have a 329 that falls within the recall serial numbers. There was a bad crack in the frame under the barrel. I went to sell a 329PD yesterday and is cracked in the same place, while not as bad, it is still cracked. They have both been sent back to S&W. If you have either one of these models, I would suggest a close inspection of the frame under the barrel. The cracks run long ways along the whole length of the threaded portion of the frame.

I have a brand new 329 pd. Do you have the serial number range ? I doubt mine would be in it but jic.
Thanks!

I had a 329PD but it would have had to have cracked in the first box of ammo. That thing was great to carry, no fun to shoot. I sold it ricky-tick.

I hope S&W does right by you.

right would be a matter on how it's perceived.
i think any warranty only applies to the original owner, anyway that's what the smith customer service guy told me.

different model but a few years ago i bought a used 4506 from a guy and noticed that the frame had a crack behind the trigger guard under the slide stop.

i contacted smith about it and was told that since it was discontinued they would only consider replacing it with a current model and only to the original owner of which i was obviously not.

i ran into the guy i bought it from a couple weeks later and he gave me a refund but he later told me he sold it to someone else for more money. somewhat unscrupulous imo.

S&W never asked if I was the original owner. I am selling these guns for the original owner so that won't be a problem if it arises. I'm interested to see what their remedy is on both guns.

Did you take any pics of the cracks?

Combination of powerful round and aluminum frame will not end well eventually.
Model 12 K frames are known for the same issue, bought a Model 317 years ago that developed the same frame crack
but .22lr IA a whole different story,.
Figured when SW eventually makes something I desire I will try to work it as a a credit

This is the 329, the 329PD wouldn't photograph well.

That's a shame that that was your experience. In '98, I had a 669 that cracked through the rail from the slide stop hole.
I bought it used and had replaced the earlier cracked grips with Pachmeyers.
I contacted S&W to check on what a new frame would cost (I was quoted like $300) because I was not expecting any warranty due to not being the original purchaser. The call taker said send it in anyways, maybe it would be considered a factory defect. I said ok, with nothing to lose was my thought. I paid the one way to the factory.
A few weeks later I was notified that it was on it's way back to me. When I opened the package, I found the Pachmeyers on top of the wrapping paper and I thought "what, they couldn't put the grips back on!?!". Then I opened the paper up to find my 669 had the latest 6906 frame on it (no need for the Pachmeyers) with 669 and my serial number stamped on the frame.

I was really happy with Smith at the time...

Smith is replacing the 329 with a 629 PC SKU 170135 with the 2.625" barrel. They will not warranty the 329PD at all so I'm going to cut the receiver and sell it for parts. There was never any question from them on whether I was the original owner or not.

Did they give a reason for "no warranty" on the 329PD?

Paul

Just said that they determined it wasn't metallurgical issue. I'd have to look at the letter to get the exact language they used. Basically they said it wasn't their fault.

"Our repair technicians have thoroughly inspected and examined your S&W firearm, serial number CJP5026. After thorough review, we have determined that the damage to this firearm was not the result of a defect in the materials or the workmanship of the firearm."

I was offered a replacement (same model) for $816.72, I passed.
