Thoughts on 43C

My thoughts on the 43c are I just bought one this morning. :)

A bit over a year ago, I went to the LGS to buy one, and the barrel was canted. Looked around a bit, and they had a Taurus 942 all stainless steel for $349, so I bought that. I can honestly say that 942 was an excellent revolver, and I shot the snot out of it over the past year. Hundreds and hundreds of rounds. Pretty much every time I went to the range. My primary carry is a J frame snubby, and the 942 was a cheap way to help keep my skills current. So I spent the last year telling myself and others I was happy with it.

But it wasn't a J frame. Yesterday, at the range, I alternated between my 640 Pro, 642, and the Taurus. The Taurus just didn't feel the same.

Life is too short. So this morning, I went back to the LGS and traded the Taurus on a new 43c. They allowed me $250, which I thought was fair. The 43c was $700. The owner inspected it with me. Good lock up, end shake, straight barrel, etc. Looking forward to putting a lot of rounds through it. But I can't start yet. The stupid and corrupt state of Illinois requires me to "cool off" for 72 hours before I can pick up the new gun. Makes no difference I traded one .22 snubby for another. Still have to wait three days to "cool off".

I doubt I will carry it concealed. But never say never. I would not feel unarmed with 8 CCI Stingers in my pocket.

One thing about the 43c. Don't have to worry about dropping it on the concrete. I think it would just drift down to the ground, it's so light.

I really like mine. Wolff makes a spring set for Rimfire models, https://www.gunsprings.com/SMITH%20&%20WESSON/J%20FRAME/cID3/mID58/dID263 Stock Number 17126 vs. the (probably) 12# stock mainspring. I put the 9# mainspring in mine an it made a significant difference in the trigger action. I have shot every kind of .22 LR I have on hand and have experienced nothing but total reliability.

My 43C

I have one. It's easy to carry, and puts 8 rounds of CCI velocitor on a self defense size target very fast.
My main concern is that I get sticky extraction after 50 rounds. Not very many for an 8 shot 22LR revolver. I burn through the ammo at a high rate!
I need to take a stick in my range bag to persuade the chambers to relinquish their empty cases! I also carry a cleaning rod and some patches. This fixes the sticky extraction.
As for a carry gun, I think that 8 rounds of low recoil ammo are somewhat under rated.
It's a fine gun, but I am now looking to trade for a Ruger Bearcat. They look like more fun, and thats the idea of a 22LR.

Rick

You're killing me. The 942 is my only Taurus revolver. I do like it, but WANT a 43c too!!! The 942 is really good for the price though...

Thanks :o Watch for 942 with upgraded night sight in classifieds.

I’ve posted these before. Top is a 351C 22 Magnum, middle is 43C 22LR and a Model 63-3 snuck in. I purchased the 351C and the 43C about 10 years ago. I think their both great fun to shoot. I injured my right hand in 2018 and carried the 351C for a couple months while the hand healed.

It' s a great 'always-gun', and won't pull your skivvies down with
inside the (elastic) waistband carry. :D

I have the 351PD cousin to the 43C, and I paid the price so my "dog's gotta pee" trips at night, let me pocket carry without pulling my jammies down.. (not even the dog wants to see that!)

While the price held me back for a couple of years, I'm glad I finally made the investment. Great little guns that you'll forget you have in your pocket they're so light.

I recommend it highly, and expect the 43C is built just as well.

I bought one for pocket carry when walking around the property. I considered an LCR, but the 43c fit all of the holsters I already had, so I went that route.
Nice gun, but mine seems a little ammo-finicky. Mini-Mags work the best, then things get hit or miss. I plan on shooting it a good bit more this summer when I dust it off again. I only have about 200 through it so far.
I agree- nice revolver...for $400-450. Not $700.

I like mine , inside the waist , front pocket and chest pockets on a couple coats . No weight so nothing sag’s. I’ve always felt comfortable with a 22 and this gun fits the bill for my carry .

Bought one of these over the weekend, total impulse buy... I've kind of wanted one, but they never last more than a day at the LGS, and I didn't want to pay the price for a new one.

Took it out to fire it yesterday, and was getting lots of light strikes. When I examined the firing pin, I saw it was peened back to the point where it was not striking the case with enough force to fire the primer compound. No evidence of excessive dry firing on the cylinder.

I ordered a new firing pin from MGW ($7), but was surprised to see this. Has anyone had similar problems? The only thing I can think of is someone was shooting steel case ammo (a LOT of it)...??

I received the part from MGW and replaced the firing pin in my 43C this morning. Here's the bad pin and the new one side by side. I actually had to file the peened edges of the pin to remove it from the frame bushing.

It was an easy fix, but I'm surprised to see that kind of damage to the firing pin with no evidence of dry firing on the cylinder...
