Thoughts on 9mm revolvers? and barrel size for 38's rather than .355 for 9mm?

I personally think the 940 is the epitome of a self-defense J-frame. The 9mm cartridge performs extremely well in that two-inch barrel, better than it does in a similarly sized sub-compact semi-auto (see my post here). It certainly performs better than the .38 Spl.

Recoil is certainly sharp, but less than a .357 Mag in that same package.

I prefer tne modded 9mm 637-2 simply because it is several ounces lighter, so more convenient for carry.

Anyone else remember 9mm Federal?
9MM Federal does not drop into a revolver chambered for 9MM Parabellum in the way that 45 Auto Rim drops into revolvers chambered for 45ACP.

9MM Federal (aka 9x19R) was actually a specific cartridge that looks much like 38S&W. It is not the THICK rim of the 45AR

I do not own any revolvers chambered in 9mm, but I cannot think that accuracy would be particularly stellar with a .355" diameter bullet traveling down a barrel with a .357" groove diameter.

I don’t think the difference in bullet diameters is enough to matter.
Consider that the diameter of the average human hair is between two and three thousandths. Pull one off of your head and look at it closely. Do you really still think that a difference of that tiny amount is enough to have any practical effect at all?
Now when you get into throat diameters, I guess it MIGHT matter a tiny bit; but likely not.

From Shooting Times:
"the SAAMI specifications of 0.3550-inch groove and 0.3460-inch bore apply to other handgun calibers as well. Which ones? ....... 9x23 Winchester, .356 TSW, .380 Auto, .38 Automatic, .38 Super +P, .38 Special (and .38 Special Match), .357 Magnum, and .357 Sig are all the same, and they all have the same 0.0040-inch tolerance"

That means the 9mm (.355") slug when fired, is going to swage to pretty much fill the entire barrel, as do the .38Sp and .357Mag.

I recently got a 327 TRR8. I tried a smorgasbord of 38/357 loads and it shot them OK. I loaded some Summers 145gr 9mm Hi Teks in a 38 case and it shot them great! I'll play with powder and velocities with that bullet and get it dialed in.

Way back when I loaded .357 with light 9mm hard cast bullets for use in USPSA. The bullet maker could size them as 9mm or .38 (Ike Paa, I think).

I don’t recall much difference in accuracy, but boy they could go fast out of a compensated 6” 586.
