Are you still able to use j-frame speedloaders like those from speedbeez if your revolver has larger aftermarket grips?
I’m specifically thinking about picking up either Herretts “shooting ace” or the Nill combat style grips…

Don’t know about speedbeez, but those speed-strip-like tabbed plastic speed-holders are more 5-sided than round, and the extra clearance makes them work where traditional speed-loaders won’t. The tab is handy to grab and makes them stay indexed in a pouch better, and they’re cheap. Worth a try.

It will depend on if the grips are cut for speedloaders.

That would be the thing to look for and ask the manufacturer before ordering.

Some of the larger rubber ones can be trimmed away but I wouldn't personally risk that with wooden grips. But there are those that are crafty enough to be able to alter the wooden ones and you don't notice the difference.

Thanks, the reason I was looking to use the speed beez loader is because this would be for a rimfire plinker, not a defensive revolver.

I modified these Altamont BATELEUR® Grips to work with HKS speed loaders.

Left is before, right is after, the lefts been modified now.

These Hogue Goncalo Alves grips clear HKS speedloaders fine on my J frame .22. (upper right)
Hogues that I have on K/L frames don't clear Safariland or HKS speedloaders without some relieving of the wood in that area.

My J frame with herrett shooting aces will accept hks speedloaders. My J with herrett shooting stars will not.

Although I carry both speed strips and a speed loader, my preferred reloading method is with a speed loader. I find it amazing that so many J frame grips do not work with speed loaders.

The Uncle Mike's rubber copies of Spegel J frame grips work great with both Safari Land and HKS speed loaders.

When I carried my Model 60-7 J Frame for EDC I trained myself to load efficiently from a Kramer horsehide bullet pouch. While I did use speed loaders for matches I never liked carrying them for SD. Just way too bulky for me. I tried the Bianchi speed strips and never cared for them much either. After training with my bullet pouch I actually became faster and more efficient than I was with the speed loaders. The pouch is a while lot easier to carry inconspicuously and by loading two-two-one I was able to reload pretty fast.

No matter which system or method you use, it's all about training!

I've had good luck with 5 Star Firearms brand speed loaders working with the newer factory S&W boot and aftermarket grips. Most speed loaders would work when Uncle Mike's provided their boot grips to S&W but when S&W switched from Uncle Mike's many speed loaders no longer worked.

FWIW, Speed Beez work with my 317 and Hogue mono grips.
