We all have our hunting and shooting heroes. Mine is Jerry Miculek. I'm a Smith & Wesson revolver fan boy and no one does it better than Jerry.

You can look up all the amazing things he has done, records he has set, and watch the YouTube videos. Here are a few.

8 shots, one target 1 second
6 shots, Reload, 6 more, 2.99 seconds
2 shots each 4 targets, 1.06 seconds
5 shots on target .57 seconds
6 shots each from 10 revolvers 17.12 seconds

It looks like Jerry will be trying to set a Guinness World Record.

Max Michel set a new record for action-pistol shooting with the fastest speed for hitting six target plates with a 9mm semi-auto SIG handgun in 2.05 seconds. Jerry will try it with a Smith & Wesson 9mm revolver.

Here is part 1. I don't know when the other parts will be out, maybe someone can fill us in?.

Well, that was both entertaining and interesting.

My only real exposure to anything having to do with Jerry Miculek is his Spring Kit. I'd decided to learn/develop a reasonable level of skill at "point and shoot". I wasn't about to use any of the guns from my collection, but I had my father-in-law's 4" M&P---bought new in 1920---and carried daily in the hip pocket of his overalls for a mere 55-60 years-----a "beater" in every sense of the word.

The double action trigger pull was 22 Lbs.--compliments of a recoil slide spring apparently selected by Bubba, based only on the fact it fit in the hole.

So---the beginning: I'd heard of Spring Kits---had stripped down about 200 S&W hand ejectors over the years for their "Welcome Bath", and replacing a couple of springs was most certainly child's play. I don't recall how Miculek's version came to my attention, but I figured I could do a lot worse!

$20 and maybe 10-15 minutes later, the new springs were in the gun----and nothing would move---not even a little bit! Maybe a quick look at the instructions would be worthwhile.

Sure enough!! The D.A. trigger pull was now 7 Lbs (the minimum recommended, lest the gun doesn't go bang). Perhaps the most attractive thing about this kit is the final D.A. trigger pull is entirely up to you------select it, measure the amount the strain screw protrudes from the front strap, whack that amount off the front of the screw (.090" in my case), and tighten the screw. Done and done---still 7 Lbs.

This 103 year old gun is slicker than greased Owl doo-doo!!-----an unbelievable transformation!!

And pointing and shooting started off so successfully, I had to move to smaller targets at longer ranges almost immediately!!

All in all, a good day-------followed by several more!!

Ralph Tremaine

So-----"How come nothing would move?"

The (kit) mainspring has a very decided forward bend in it, maybe 3/8"-to 1/2" back from the top end---I don't know why---very likely because it works! The outside apex of that bend was up against the underside of the hammer---and nothing would move. I don't remember the what or why of it today---if I could lay my hands on the instructions, the answer would very likely jump right out at me; but in no time at all (following the instructions the second time around), all was well.

6 shots; it seems like if they want a pistol record, that they would want to go for something like 17 shots. Or, maybe load 17 rounds to get 6 hits. That would be more realistic than 6 for 6. Spray and pray record!

Spray and pray???

The record discussed is for 6 hits on 6 different steel plates - aimed fire. Exact opposite of spray and pray.

I understood that, I was just making the point that if they were using a pistol for its best advantage, that it should be a high round count event. You can do 6 with a revolver.

Clark Custom Guns is about 15 miles from my home and I have been a customer with them before they moved from the log cabin in Keithville to the present location in Princeton. Jerry and Kay's home is located on the road about 50 yards before you get to the shop. I see Jerry fairly regularly in the area around the shop when he is usually going to one of his private ranges on the golf cart or doing yard work on his small tractor. I have only spoken to him directly on a couple of occasions because he is always busy and I don't want to bother him. I have seen him at times when he makes a stroll thru the Clark shop while I am in there shopping or visiting. He is a down to earth person with a very likeable disposition. What you see on his videos is what you see with him in person. A lot of people with his accomplishments and fame would probably have a haughty and conceited attitude but there is none of that in Jerry. I believe that most of his inside videos showing the wall of bullets behind him are filmed in his shop directly behind his house. I have never been inside his shop but they say it is a site to behold. I have seen him in person several times during his shooting exhibitions and it is truly amazing as to what he can do with most any firearm.

He will probably be using some version of an 8 shot 9mm 929. That's one of his favorites.

It’s a Custom, Fast, light, Concept Gun built for him by Smith & Wesson.
The frame and barrel shroud are from a Model 327, it will have a Titanium Cylinder and the rest is from other parts they have at the factory. It will be in 9mm.

Jerry is a true Southern gentleman. If you ask him how he does something - he'll show you. He showed me how he tosses a moon clip at the cylinder from about a foot above it. It will self align and drop right in. He shows me this and says "See?" and grins. The looser the clips hold the rounds the better it works. It works poorly with straight wall .38s.

I recall meeting and shaking hands with Jerry Miculek at the Clark booth at a SHOT Show (Dallas I think) many moons ago...I'm pretty sure both Sr. and Jr. Clark's were there also...It was a brief encounter, and SHOT Shows were always a hurry-up-and-talk-to-all event...;)...Ben

I have a Model 929 with Jerry’s name on the side. It’s one of my favorite guns. I used it to win our clubs Texas Star shoot last year. I was the only revolver shooter. I’m in no way anywhere near Jerry’s league but the gun is capable.

I heard him at one of his private ranges last week when I made a visit to Clark Custom Guns to see what was new there. Sounded like someone shooting a short burst from a machine gun but probably was him with some of his revolvers!!!! I believe that he WILL break that record.
