Which barrel length?
If it's the rb snub with fg combats it's an easy yeas, the 4" maybe, 6" meh.

I'm a fan of the 4" narrow rib .44 barrel but chose the .44 Magnum mountain gun which has the same barrel profile but can fire .44 special or magnums.

Identify a Lew Horton revolver

How can a Lew Horton revolver be identified? The one I have was purchased at a gun show and came w/out a box or papers. Is the actual gun marked as a Lew Horton?

I agree 3” yes. 4” or 6” never even occurred to me.

Just to clear up any possible confusion, the 4” and 6.5” versions of the 24-3 constitute the original, limited to 7,500 gun edition done around 1983.

Lew Horton had nothing to do with those!

After the huge success of the limited edition, Lew Horton contracted the 3” RB version of the 24-3 as a way to fulfill the ongoing demand for more 44 Specials while respecting the terms of the limited edition.

The only possible revolver the OP is referencing is the 3” version.

If you want it get it…….folks hang on to them. Keep your eyes open for the holsters.

There is a woman u can email that was in charge of things a Hortons. She will tell u if it’s a Horton gun based on serial number. Someone will come along and post her email address.

Grail or target of opportunity? That's a good price on a 3" N frame, especially if you're already into .44 special1 or roll your own. IIRC the grips are probably 200-300$. After re-reading original post w/ box&acc's& ammo..****n don't walk.

I happen to be fortunate enough to own all three barrel lengths of the Model 24-3. 3, 4 and 6.5 inches. All are outstanding guns. :D
Here they are with a few friends. ;)

Like H Richard, I don't care for a round butt N-frame. Besides, my 3" was bought used and had a terrible pair of rubbers on it. I modified an older set of ACE rd to sq conversion grips into a semi-boot grip and love 'em. :D

Not all 3" 24-3s are Lew Horton's. After the LH run, there was such a demand for more 3" 24-3s that S&W made another run which they sold themselves. My own 3" 24-3 is NOT a LH.
