Hello everyone, I have come across a model 686 no dash with the Kentucky State Police emblem on the side plate. It has a 4" barrel.
I have been unable to find any information on these guns, so I was wondering if anybody knows anything about them. Thanks for your help.

Swat Lt., thanks for the info...you are correct, it came with pachmyers but luckily I had these grips to put on the gun.

I found about 4 different 686 made for police departments in the SCS&W book but not one for Kentucky State Police. If you are interested in selling it I would be interested. I have a Model 19 Ky state Police.

Thanks for taking the time to look it up. I finally decided to go the source and call the State Police.
The detective I talked to, told me that it was a service revolver that the officers carried in the 80's. He said, and I have to agree, that it is a very lucky find.

The KSP carried the 686s after their 66s and until they went to the 1076s. They issued 125 grain magnum JHPs and were quite happy with the gun and ammunition performance. They issued them with Pachmayrs. They issued Model 60s as back up/off duty guns during the same time period. Hope this helps.

That would look good in a presentation box with the KSP shoulder patch lying next to it.
