Default 357 needs repair

Looking for a gunsmith in SC. The only good (best) one in my area is busy with manufacturing suppressors that he is not taking any repair business at this time. I am near Columbia, SC. Any help would be appreciated. This is a magnum, i think a model 19. It was given to me and was stored in a cloth with what looks like some type of oil. The nickel plate is messed up on the barrel and there is rust and pitting on the inside of the barrel. The cylinder and the rest looks to be in good condition. Can these barrels be changed, and is it worth it?

19 barrels are kinda scarce. Finding a used one may take a little doing. May have to clean out the rust and see how it shoots. If it shoots ok, then may just want to either live with the finish problem or have just the barrel refinished.

Thanks for the replies. Even if i found a barrel i still need a smithy to do the work. Im a custom jeweler and don't know anything about hand gun work. Haven't fired this weapon in over 5 years. I would like to, so want to at least have someone that knows what they are doing look at it. Don't have to have someone in SC. I will ship anywhere that is recommended. Just want an opinion from someone knowledgeable here on the forum as to a gunsmith i can trust for workmanship and fairness. I do understand that u get what u pay for.

I have been afraid to ask the question, but does S&W work on any of their old product?? Remember I not well versed here. Any hope of sending it to them for a new barrel?

You can certainly call S&W and ask, but they have been out of M19 barrels for several years.

Try Jim Kelly at Darlington Gun Works in Darlington,SC. He has repaired a couple of guns for me. High quality work at a fair price.

Nothing like neglect of a nice gun that was 100% preventable.
You might do a good cleaning on the bore to see if it will clean up. Sometimes you get lucky and the damage is more apparent than real. If it's really a goner, you'll have to look around and try to get lucky.

I do a certain amount of my own work on S&Ws and hopefully know my limitations. Thereafter I box 'em up and send 'em in. Not cheap, especially with the overnight rip-off regulations, but once it gets to Springfield they do nice work. It's only money.
