Factory reblue?

I sent mine in March, they told me 4 weeks. 9 weeks later, still waiting. From comments on here, I am figuring on 12 weeks total.

I have my Colt python at Colt for refinish... Its 7 months now and it just got to the polishing dept. no pits just holster wear

I hope we get some notice about when your gun arrives. I sent mine in Jan 28. It was not PAID for until March 10 and I dont have it back as of June 10.

My model 10 was received in Springfield on April 17. I have not heard a single word from them. Like a dumb azz I sent them a model 65 2 weeks later. Are they that busy?
Am I supposed to call them? Does anybody know what the drill is here?

My Model 25-2 was sent in Jan 28. I sent it via my local gun shop and did not send payment, just a letter stating what I wanted and my contact info. S&W sent my dealer a letter with an estimate of charges to pay for the job. They told me on the phone March 10 that they would only send it back the dealer when finished since that is who sent them the gun. I paid with credit card on that date and have now waited for the gun to hopefully be returned soon.

Someone else on another thread earlier suggested that if payment was sent in with the gun in the first place, repair or refinish would take place much faster than if no payment sent until the gun was inspected and repair estimated. All of this takes a lot longer, it SEEMS, than it did in the mid 1970's when I sent in two antiques for re-nickeling.

They're right out straight. You can call Ccustomer Service and they'll tell you where in the process your gun is.

Got a quote in the mail today, called and gave my credit card info. I did not ask how long for the work to be performed as I guess it really doesn't matter at this point I just want it done. So I would say it looks like about 7-8 weeks after it gets there and then they'll send you a quote.
I'm OK with all that, I'ld like them to do the work and they're pretty busy.
I'll post when I get the gun as to the time frame. Master action job and reblue....

As everyone else stated about 7-9 weeks is the average for re-blue job. Even sometimes longer than that depending on them. Totally worth it tho!

Colt is currently quite busy and has lengthy wait times but you will
quickly forget the wait once you get it back. Their refinishing these days is absolutely fantastic!

Mine Came Back Today!

In an above post I said I was waiting for my Model 25-2 to come back from the S&W Service Dept. for refinishing. I had sent it via my local dealer and S&W not only insisted on returning the gun to the shop that sent it in ( the dealer) they also had sent a letter of Estimate to the dealer instead of me. I think I may have explained that above in the earlier post. Now that I look at my receipts I see I may have reported dates a few off. Gun was originally dropped off at my dealer on Jan 22, '13. I called S&W in response to the Estimate letter with my credit card no. authorizing the re-blue on March 12.

Today, July 2, '13, the gun arrived back at my dealer. I am really pleased with the re-blue. I have no pictures yet and will apologize before I attempt to post any for my ancient camera and my own poor photo skills. I selected the Standard Blue after looking at as many posts on this forum as I could find, hoping to come close to the original blue on my .45, made in 1980. I did not want it to necessarily look like a Model 29 from that era. This gun had terrible blotches of missing blue that I had assumed some former owner had unwisely used Rust and Blue Remover on. Who knows, maybe it was one the guns I've read about on Smith-Wesson Forums that had been doused with apple sauce. The gun definitely had acid caused blemishes. It proved a good shooter and I liked it and instead of getting rid of it, spent money on the re-blue. I'm glad I did even if I have more into it than the gun is worth. Truth is, its value has risen sharply in the last two years, even with the much better looking non-original finish.

I am very pleased with the polish job and even the COLOR. I had read on this forum that the currently used Bluing method at S&W was decidedly different than what was used before mid-1980s. Side-by side with a gun from '72-'74, the color is NOT all that different. The polish job is maybe slightly better than the earlier 25-2 I have. Side plate fit is wonderful, as I knew it would be from S&W. Side plate fit after a refinish by other than factory places has long been a sore spot with me. I find it so glaringly wrong looking when the edges of the side plate and frame where they meet are rounded by polishing separately. Even Ford's shows some ill-fitting side plates on their website in pics of guns that are supposed to show what kind of great refinishing they can do. Could be though, those guns had ill fitting side plates before being sent to Ford's.

So again. My gun was sent in Jan. 22 ( dealer may have actually shipped a day or so later). I paid for and OK'd the work on Mar. 12. Gun was back home July 2. I am glad it is home.

I'll try to get pics up soon.

Pics of 25-2

Sorry, it took awhile to get better pictures and then learn how to post them. This is the revolver mentioned above that I got back from Customer Service July 2. this is Standard Blue and it is exactly what I wanted. I do not have any before pics. It was not pretty.

In my limited experience, Colt service has always been extremely slow regardless of what had to be done. I can remember a 180 day turn around to have a blemished hammer replaced on a new SAA. The reason: it "HAD" to be sent back thru the assembly line to have the hammer fitted. That story came directly from Colt Customer non-service. Their work has almost always been first class but you grow old & take root waiting. With turn around taking that long and the factory being on the East Coast, that timeline invariably encompasses one or more holidays plus some manner of "scheduled plant shutdown".

Came back on October 15, so that's about 5 months. It's absolutely perfect, better than new. Will do it again for sure.
I am still waiting to here, and yes I have contacted them, about a M65 sent in on 6/1. Not sure what the hold up could be but they say it hasn't been looked at yet.
The blue job on the M10 is way beyond what I expected for sure.
