Default good gunsmith in Kansas City area?

Hi there,

I live just SE of Kansas City, MO. I was thinking of having little tweaks done to my 9c. I do have a gun smith that I use but I don't know how good he is. My gun shoots great, I just want to add an APEX kit and change out the sights at the same time. I also was going to have it polished inside. Like I said the gun shoots just fine, I am spoiled by my competition gun and want it to be better. I don't want my gun smith messing up my gun. So gunsmith suggestions for my area?

I recommend Tom Mason, holder of an A.S. degree in Gunsmithing from the Colorado School of Trades, whose shop is located at 727 Lake Doniphan Road, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, 64024. His cellular telephone number is 816-804-7135. Shop hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. He has done excellent work on my own firearms for reasonable prices.

If you know any S.A.S.S. shooters in the Kansas City metropolitan area, ask them about "Doc Dag," the shooter and gunsmith. "Doc Dag" is Tom Mason's S.A.S.S. handle.

Cowboy Action Shooting is Tom's current recreational shooting interest. In the past, he was a very active I.P.S.C. shooter, and later an I.D.P.A. competitor. He loves upland game hunting, but he hasn't had time to do much of that in recent years. I mention his personal shooting to show that it's easy for Tom to see the shooting world through a shooter's eyes.

Tom is a personal friend, so I may be biased. But that friendship is founded in part on Tom's demonstrated professional competence and integrity.

In my December 08, 2013 post I forgot to state that Tom Mason has worked on some of my Smith & Wesson handguns to my perfect satisfaction. Since this is THE Smith & Wesson Forum, I really should have remembered such an obviously relevant bit of personal experience: my 642 is now far more civilized since Tom worked on it!
