    Painted Ladies (the good kind)

Thanks for the Sharpie tip, Dave. I just did that to my SP101, and it did improve sight picture.

    586 lug cut down

ljmvaw124, seems like I remember reading that S&W has a 5" barrel that does not have the full underlug; might be an option for you. After I authorized the work to be done on this one, I had a fleeting thought, "Why didn't I just ask them if they had a 3" barrel for it?" But I am very happy...

    586 lug cut down

Yes, they did some touch-up work to the front of the lug.

    586 lug cut down

From the muzzle to the beginning of the cut down (top of the lug, just underneath the barrel) measures 1.25". From the muzzle to the farthest part of the cut down (bottom of the lug) measures 1.625". I did not do the cut down work, so I'm not sure what he used to do it. But it was very smooth...

    Painted Ladies (the good kind)

I painted the front sight on my SP101 with orange, and it helps tremendously. Thanks for this tip. I will do that also on my Ruger.

    586 lug cut down

Thank you. I hope to get some decent pictures taken of it soon, instead of these cheapo shots with my BlackBerry. I have a buddy with a nice setup who takes photos for me for insurance purpose, and anytime I need to sell a gun. All he asks is I treat him to dinner at his favorite restaurant. I...

    586 lug cut down

I honestly do not know. I asked for a reblue, and we did not discuss finish options. I just went back and looked at the work order paperwork. All it says is refinish complete gun. The product code is 9999RE. I plan to write a letter thanking the craftsmen for their fine work. I will ask which...

    586 lug cut down

Some of us were discussing this after I posted a picture on the snubbies thread. To prevent too much thread drift I decided to start a new discussion. Here is a picture of my 586 after the previous owner cut down the lug and did some other mods to smooth the edges. This is one of the pictures...

    Who's Got Snubbies?

Yep, previous owner did the mod. I've got his pictures to prove it, and can direct you to them on thehighroad.org (he is a moderator of the revolver forum). When S&W did the reblue, they also did some fine-tuning to the cut down. The cut was decent before, but it came back looking factory fresh...

    Who's Got Snubbies?

Yeah, I should have said this when I posted the picture. The previous owner cut down the lug. I bought it because my 686 felt a bit barrel heavy. This one feels just right in my hand. I finally got the extra $ to send it back to S&W in February for a reblue. Vito tried to talk me out of it, and...

    Who's Got Snubbies?

Okay, if we can play that way, then here is my only snubby, also a Ruger SP101, and also a regular carry gun. Shown here with my 586 recently returned from a S&W factory reblue.

    M stamp on frame

Look at the 4th post here for info. on the M stamp modification: http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/166245-m686-engineering-changes.html My 1985 586 also has the M stamp. Great guns!

Ahrends Retro Combats on a Mountain Gun

Rodentman, which woods are the last two you posted? I'm thinking of replacing the cocobolo tactical finger groove grips on my 586 with a set of retro combats, and have not decided on a wood yet.

my new to me 64-3 3incher

Lovely! I really want a 3" K frame. Maybe if I'm good the rest of the year Santa will bring me one . . . probably not

How do you find your guns?

Mine have come from a variety of sources: gun forum members, local shops, friends/family. Picked up my SIG P228 in a trade at a gun show. The Beretta 92FS I just got last month was from a friend who needed $ to buy new camera equipment. Found my Marlin 1894c among a bunch of consignment rifles...

Average Age of Revolver Shooter Here

I'm only able to vote in the 41-49 bracket for a few more months. I began with long guns as a boy (with my uncle, dad is still not a gun guy), and never fired a handgun until I was nearly 40. I love my revolvers! If my father-in-law were voting, he'd be the second guy in the 80+ category. He'll...

Location of S&W trade mark insignia

Thanks for the replies. What first got me curious was seeing a 1983 model 586 with the logo on the frame (left side), while my 1985 model 586 has it on the side plate (right side). Thought it might be a function of the date. Then browsing through the 3" thread I saw no discernible pattern.

Location of S&W trade mark insignia

I'm sure this has been answered many times, but I cannot find it in a search. Why is the trade mark insignia sometimes on the right side, sometimes on the left side of S&W revolvers?
