    Stone fingers and hands

Stainless is easily fixed. Nickel maybe, blue needs the most work to look right. I always remove the cylinder. it's really the best way to clean dirty revolvers! Mothers mag polish for the first 2 with a little scotchbrite to redo the brushed look.

    Headspace on Model 17

When you stretch the yoke barrel the end shake will disappear. .002 end shake is ideal. You will notice the barrel air gap will grow was you tighten up the end shake. The head space is controlled by the center "boss" of the ejector. Never file this boss down! Head space on a 22 mag is...

    Adventure in revolver repair

S&W revolvers have the tool made underneth the side plate, ready for that purpose! Funny, the book calls it a hammer block....

.500 S&W will it penetrate body armor and common barriers? Tactical role of it?

Well, if the home invaders are dressing up for the invasion, it's time to use a rifle, don't you think? The 500 will turn your inner ear to jelly if you must shoot inside the house. I shutter to think of it.

625-2 "of 1988" worth more than an "of 1989"?

The 625s never seem to follow any format. First 89 I've seen with an old frame.

    Revolver Frame Lug Question

The lug is long because they are staked in place. So lay the frame on a solid block of metal (lead) and stake it from inside. I use locktite also so it won't ever twist when I fix them. File the insides smooth then reassemble the action parts.

625-2 "of 1988" worth more than an "of 1989"?

The biggest thing I hate about the 89 guns is if you wipe the gun with polish you can remove the laser markings. The 88 gun is stamped and is much more durable & desireable. The 2ND reason the 88 is worth more is the place of the firing pin. It's on the hammer and not stored in the frame.

After several hundred fired thru mine.

    Model 442....Broken Hammer Stud....Back to S&W :(

Dry fire with the side plate removed could cause that. I just don't see how it could break with the side plate on. The pin is supported on both sides, unless the pin is simply defective.

    fitting an oversized hand?

I posted this before. This is a copy and paste for your pleasure. Hand fitting does violate "file the cheapest part" rule. Before a wider hand will do any good, it must catch the ratchets closer to the center of the cylinder. This means you must file the hand's window only on the left side and...

    fitting an oversized hand

Take care when attempting this. Striking too hard will shatter the lug and now you have a 5 shot... Of course now your forced to send it back. I done this myself so this should be your finale attempt before sending the gun back. Some extractors are possibly not available.

Do you have enough reloading equipment?

I picked this up the other day. To clean brass and silencer baffles. I use it with stainless media. It does a wonderful job.
