    American 44 “Rimfire”

Colt was famous for not wanting to promote a competitor's name when marking a barrel for a caliber that included a brand name other than Colt. I am not certain that they would have recorded the rimfire SAAs as 44 Henry even if it was the same cartridge. It's very possible that they could be the...

ANYBODY HERE BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT??

I mailed an antique Double Action 44 to a member of this forum in Canada last year through USPS. I put "Antique S&W" on the customs form. It was no hassle on my end, but I understand it did spend some time in purgatory of Canadian customs. However, he did eventually receive it.

    Reinstalling side plate

Since this is posted in the antique section, the assumption is he isn't dealing with a hammer block, but I agree with using the handle of a screwdriver to tap it gently.

1889 Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action First model

It wasn't too hard to find. The photos aren't great, but there's no question it's been refinished. It's definitely one I'd want to see in person before dropping any large sum of money.

What Is The Point Of A 40 And 45 Cal Auto In A Revolver?

45acp makes a lot of sense in a revolver for all the reasons previously stated. OTOH, a 40 S&W revolver is an answer to a question no one asked.

1917 Smith and Wesson Refinished Value

I don't know that you can be 100 percent sure, so it might come down to the price and your gut feeling.

Older Revolver - Need Help Identifying

I don't dispute any of the comments about caring for these grips, but a closer examination of the photos will reveal that one panel is already severely damaged. Of course, it's advisable to do no additional harm.

    Five screw Highway Patrolman

The first thing I would try is clamping it between two smooth-faced vice jaws to see if you can get enough of the bend out of it to function properly.

Pre 28 not stamped Highway Patrolman

I saw this gun for sale too and came here to start a thread asking the same question. Glad it is already being discussed.

    Custom New Model No. 3

The spur is very obviously riveted onto the trigger guard. Not factory.

    S&W Russian 2nd Model?

Based on the crossed swords, I would take a wild guess at Turkish/Ottoman. Do you know what caliber it is?

    identifying 32-20 CTG

Covering the grip frame serial number is not a crime. If it was, every set of rubber Packmayr grips would come with a felony conviction. Why do people make up this stuff?

    Wells Fargo Schofield

I'd love the find one for even close to $3K. The one we are discussing in this thread was listed online for $6800, although I don't know what the OP actually paid.

    Wells Fargo Schofield

I agree that it would be quite foolish today to destroy a collectible condition US issued Schofield by making a WF clone out of it. But I don't doubt that there was a time in the not-too-distant past when it was considered desirable to add a WF mark to an already cut down Schofield to increase...

    Model 3 American Article

David Chicoine's S&Ws of the Old West book is another good source on the early Americans.
