    Model 3 American Article

Me too. I just picked up Charles Pate's book on the American Models and it is excellent.

No. 3 2nd Model American parts source?

Success! Using some Kroil and a good fitting driver tip, I was able to remove the stuck screw. It was very tight, but the threads all look good.

    schofield

I have seen some knock-off S&W clones that were branded as "Schofield." Perhaps this is one of those.

No. 3 2nd Model American parts source?

Another question. Are there any recommended gunsmiths working on these antique S&Ws?

No. 3 2nd Model American parts source?

Seems like there are a few options. My bigger issue right now is that the screw that holds the latch into the top strap is stuck!

No. 3 2nd Model American parts source?

I recently picked up this 2nd model American revolver and it needs some work. Specifically, the V-spring for the top latch is missing. Does anyone know of a source for a replacement, or if this spring is interchangeable with any later models?

    .44 S&W Barrel Stamp

He was basically correct. The cartridge name 44 S&W refers to the original 44 Smith & Wesson Russian, as opposed to 44 Smith & Wesson Special (longer case version) or 44 Smith & Wesson American, a completely different cartridge.

    Something weird about my Schofield

If you do more research on Guns of History, I think you will find quite a bit of controversy surrounding Wendell Grangaard's theories and analysis of so-called Indian markings. A recent sale of a large portion of his collection of old west guns at auction in Las Vegas indicates that very little...

    Something weird about my Schofield

The US marking is clearly visible under the attempt to obliterate it.

Not bad. Having ammo is more than half the battle.

Smith & Wesson #3 Double Action

I can't see anything in the photo you mentioned, but it looks like a Spanish or Belgian copy.

    44 Double Action First Model

I've had it a couple years. It was part of a multi-gun deal, so hard to put an exact dollar amount on it, but I probably overvalued it at the time. I will list it here first if I decide to sell. I am more of a single action fan, so if I do move it along it will be in the hopes of eventually...

    44 Double Action First Model

Thanks. $1500 seems reasonable. It's just hard to find any actual recent sales in that range to confirm or compare condition. It does have heavier wear on the right side, including the worn S&W logo, but I think it looks a little better in hand than the photos show.

OK, so tell me what condition you think it's in. That's why I posted photos.

    44 Double Action First Model

I have this 44 Double Action First Model .44 Russian in my collection. Serial number is 40969. It's also got a factory repair star and 8-21 date under the grips. About 75-80 percent original finish, a very good bore and tight and solid lock up with good timing. Thinking about selling or trading...

S&W Army 1917 with holster and army issue ammo

MG34, your statement is incorrect as noted by Wiregrassguy. You may make the case that it was an insufficient hammer block that required redesign, but to say that the design lacked a hammer block safety is not true.

About the nicest Baby Russian out there

Figuring in the seller's premium, somebody lost their *** on that one.
