Not sure....they came stock with the gun. They came with the full size Hogues also, I like these much better.

Nice. I have a stock, new .44 M MG. I am thinking about a Bob Mernickle Bear Paw crossdraw holster for it. I pack it now in a Simply Rugged pancake holster. Mine came with the small wooden grips, and the full sized Hogue Monon grip. I prefer the smaller ones....I rarely shoot it with full house...

Nice - aside from my Commander, that is my idea of the perfect carry gun. AWESOME.

Living in Michigan, I can carry a full sized gun 9 months out of the year with no trouble. A wool coat makes a full sized 1911 or a 4" N frame disapear. I love 4" Smith's...the SSR has really caught my eye.

I haven't fired one, but love the looks and handling characteristics of the 686SSR. What do you guys think of it as a full size carry gun? I carry a Model 29 MG on occasion now, so the size doesn't bother me.

Well, I read MOST of the posts on the above link, thanks. I don't care at ALL about the asthetics issue. I just want the gun not to fail, ever. For example, I shoot a hundred rounds or so through it before I put a new magazine in my load out line up for my Commander. I'm looking for...

Not me deanodog. I have several Smith's, but 2 that I carry and use the most are a IL 642 and a .44 Mountain Gun. I suppose it's possible for the IL (I'm assuming IL is "internal lock"?) to fail and sieze up the gun, but are there any DOCUMENTED cases of it? And I don't mean urban legends from...

Why so much negativity about the locks on new S&W revolvers? I have old Smith's and new, and don't see any functional difference. I don't use the lock, but put one of the keys on my key ring just in case.
