    Model 14 no-dash 4 in. barrel

The 375 Kansas City PD 4" Heavy Combat Masterpieces special ordered in April 1957 were in the K260XXX to K298000 s/n range with the lion's share K292XXX and were not model marked. However, there were subsequent (much smaller) orders placed by the KCPD so it's still possible the OP example could...

    4 digit HE 45lc

For those of us subscribing to the factory conversion theory . . . Here is a Model 1917 converted by the factory in July 1949 to 45 Colt (with adjustable sights also added). It is complete with a replacement cylinder (and barrel to accommodate the target front sight and reduced barrel...

Need some grip IDing help if you can.

I'm going to cast my vote for Cloyce (aka Cascade Custom) ... remembering that Cloyce Edwards worked for Herrett ... not sure who influenced who. Russ

    S&W 14 FIVE INCH

Somewhere between $300 for a well-worn but serviceable example with a non-factory cut 6" barrel . . . and $1,500 for a pristine, as-new example in the original box. There is considerable information available from members on this forum but we need more information and pictures if possible to...

    Mini14 advice

Here's the best reference I've found . . . assuming it's a Ranch Rifle it looks like the change from 1 in 7" to 1 in 9" took place within the 195 series depending on serial number. Ruger Mini 14/30 manufacture date and twist rate, UPDATE | Ruger Forum Russ

    Mini14 advice

A very key point . . . match bullet weight to barrel twist! My 196 series has 1 in 9" twist and I've found 68gr Hornady or 69gr Sierra bullets are much more accurate than any 55gr bullet I've tried. Russ

    Smith and Wesson Model 14

There were special-order runs of 5" barrels but we would need a serial number to determine if it was among the known runs. Other information that would help us identify what you have are: 1) is it model-marked (14, 14-1 or 14-2) 2) if it is not model-marked, does it have a tapered, narrow-rib...

Early Model 60 variants, 3" barrels, with new pics

Does it have a square butt? AEU s/n pefix makes it sound like one of the Jovino special run . . . or one that got tacked onto or diverted from that run . . . possibly for evaluation by DOD??? Most interesting . . . would love to hear more . . . oh yes, and pictures! Russ

Early Model 60 variants, 3" barrels, with new pics

There was a special run of 3" Model 60s with heavy barrel and square butt produced for John Jovino (major S&W dealer in New York) . . . but that was in 1984 so they did not have the pinned barrel. The serial number range was AEU, AEV & I believe some in AEW. Russ

    White Skunk Spotted in Yard

White skunks are not common in our area but here's one that showed up in our back yard to clean-up seed under our bird feeder. We live in rural Missouri and have many critters . . . I leave them alone if they're 50 feet or more away from the house but this one crossed the line . . . needless to...

    Model 10-5 love 3" style

jjmIII . . . many (if not most) of these 3" M&Ps were made for export . . . Australia being the most frequent destination . . . but your s/n is close enough to mine (D571184) that it could have shipped to Jamaica. Thanks everyone for sharing your examples . . . I am a big 3" K-frame fan as...

    Model 14-3

I hesitate to suggest an offer price pending your examination in detail . . . but would suggest paying particular attention to the originality of the finish. It might be the lighting but looking at picture 3 in post #13 and pictures 1 & 2 in post #15 raises questions in my mind. If you're...

    Model 14-3

In fact there were a few made with a 4 inch (heavy) barrel in the 1971 period. The barrel and rib are a Model 14 profile and distinctly different than the Dayton guns. Here is a 14-3 s/n 1K32110 with Roy's letter confirming it is a factory special order. The barrel comparison pictures show...

    Inherited .38 Special CTG

I believe you will find the Model is "Mod 64-3" on the yoke cutout of the frame . . . just opposite the yoke where you discovered the 6644X. Based on the non-pinned barrel it would be after 1981 and based on the serial number BAB2591 it would likely be from 1988. The 3" Model 64 is a favorite...
