I've been using 8.5 of Unique with a 240 LSWC for quite a while. Great shooter, pleasant recoil, accurate. I haven't got around to chronographing it yet but the book says 900 fps in a 6" barrel.

I get 1240 fps with a 155 XTP and Power Pistol in a 4" barrel. That is the absolute best I can get with standard pressure .40 S&W. If I need more than that I take my .357 Magnum! And honestly, with a 4" .357 I can't get 1400 with a 158. 158 gr LSWC I can achieve 1341 fps in a 4"er. That's still...

Some CLP, 0000 steel wool, and a lil elbow grease will knock that off. Afterwards, rub some CLP on those areas, wipe off the excess, clean the inside of those grips, also with CLP, and put them back on. About every other gun cleaning redo this and it should take care of the problem.

It can be useful at times, but certainly not necessary. I rarely use it on revolver cartridges.

.22 would do, but if you want to use a .38 I'd just use a LSWC!

I have an older version, the SW40VE. It has been flawless and accurate. A very good gun for a low price! If it was all I had I would feel well armed.
