Wyatt Earp and The Cowboy War

Thanks! I'll do that. I am somewhat of a Robert B. Parker fan, but one result is that I know that he is not exactly an expert on firearms.

How plausible is this - pleading guilty on fed crime and getting...

I know a few tall people that play golf, but not during a thunderstorm. I probably wouldn't hang around this guy.

    Popularity of LE trade-in guns

Nothing wrong with an attachment to LE guns, but I don't have one, except I wouldn't mind coming across my great-grandfather's gun. I guess I'll have to make do with one of his watches. Now, if he had served in NYC instead of Youngstown, Ohio, maybe R. M. Vivas could help me out.

    Roy Fishpaw has Passed On

Thank you for posting his obituary. I did not know that he was a fellow Navy warrant officer, although we interacted personally when he made grips for my N-frame [custom] round butt. My wife also seemed to relate very well to his wife. I have good memories of him, and his grips are still the...

    dry lube inside action

I have not really performed any carefully recorded tests, but I have been using RIG +P Stainless Steel lube internally on S&W and Colt revolvers for over three decades. I have had most of those revolvers apart again at least once or twice, and I have not seen any evidence of gumming or...

629-1 - Hammer Slightly Catching on the Bolt Slide

You have been VERY lucky. DO NOT rely on masking tape. Use heavy leather , buy the tool, or go to a gunsmith. Put the gun down and go get an illustrated parts breakdown and a piece of heavy leather before you pick the gun up again.

629-1 - Hammer Slightly Catching on the Bolt Slide

BTW, you will NOT be unscrewing the center pin from anything. You will be unscrewing the extractor rod from the extractor. Re-read post #4, about a piece of heavy leather, empty cases, and LH thread. There are also special tools for the job, and some folks use the chuck on a drill, but...

Nice-looking gun! Don't forget to put some blue Loctite on the Phillips-head screw in the right-side safety lever.

    SMITH & WESSON 38 SPECIAL

It is certainly true that at least a few aluminum frame revolvers have cracked. Many, many more have not. It is more fun to shoot a steel revolver than an aluminum. It is more fun to carry an aluminum revolver than a steel. Only with a 12-4 did S&W start making the 12s so that the same grips...

    The U. S. Postal Service...............

I don't deny anyone else's experiences, but my own in perhaps a dozen or so locations has been that USPS is near 100% reliable. One ridiculously delayed delivery in over seventy years.

    How to handle this? (LGS)

As several posts have pointed out, it is NOT an inconvenience to them. Just call them up and tell them, and thank them for their consideration.

How plausible is this - pleading guilty on fed crime and getting...

Very believable. If they wouldn't do it for a SEAL, for whom would they do it? Now, if he was only UDT, that's a whole nother kettle of fish, or crock of . . . , well, you get the idea.

    Rant: Phrases That Annoy Me

To repeat an aging post, anyone who misuses such a locution should be caned from head to toe, arsenal.

You know it's getting pretty bad when.....

I did that recently with a $1.25/pr pair of potholders, and I don't own even half a dozen pairs of potholders. If you have anywhere near as many guns as I do, I would recommend not worrying about it. I, on the other hand, should probably set some kind of Alzheimer's watch.

    ??? for military retirees.

Retired after 25 with near 63% of the base pay of a W-4 over 26 (had a year and a day of reserve service before entering the Regular Navy). Never regretted it, but each individual has his own special circumstances. I would hesitate to state a general rule.

    FPS Question

Basically, what Erich said. The original velocity quotes are suspect, guns differ in several aspects, and the effect of barrel length varies with the powder used. I have observed all of the preceding even with my limited use of a chronograph. Primarily because powders vary, no formula is...
