    Sideplate Issue

It was a used gun, pretty mint, except that old oil had turned to varnish in places. I really don't know if the screws were tight when I brought it home or not. I gave it a good cleaning and that is when I noticed the problem. It was put back together correctly and screws are in the correct...

    Sideplate Issue

JohnK, I assume you mean the hammer block being in the up position. This was installed correctly. I am at a loss over what is binding. Its only a minute fraction of a turn between binding and working like it should with it backed off??? I am definitely at a loss.

    Sideplate Issue

Cleaned my (new to me) Model 64-4 last night. If I tighten the back two screws on the sideplate all the way down the action binds. Turning them back less than 1/4 turn and it works perfect??? The guns is pretty much mint. I've never had a S&W do this. Should I go with it and not worry or...

    Model 60-4

I just bought a really nice S&W Model 60-4, 3 inch full lug barrel with target sights, serial number BSA89XX. Anyone got a guess on the year of manufacture?

New Ivory Grips on my Model 36-1

I just bought these Walrus Ivory grips for my SAA. They came in at $300 which is considerably cheaper than the pre-ban elephant. I really like the transition look from the outer tooth (bark) to the inner. Gives it a really different look.

New Ivory Grips on my Model 36-1

Got these Christmas, just got around to taking the pics. These are pre-ban elephant ivory by Jerry Meacham.

Which S&W J frame revolver model do carry?

Cal44, like I posted, I have more than one J frame. The 649 being one. I picked the Model 36-1 because of the reasons listed in my post. As far as the 649, the Bodyguard is an excellent choice. You still have the hammer accessible if you want to make a single action target shot. Between the...

Which S&W J frame revolver model do carry?

Hard choice on just one selection. I own a Model 60, 649 and a 36-1. From time to time I carry each of these. And it's not uncommon to have one on my hip and one in an ankle holster. My favorite is the 36-1, 3 inch heavy barrel, round butt. All have found their home :-)

Confused: Are S&W revolver barrels supposed to be canted?

I have a Model 60-9 that had a slightly canted barrel. Never was a problem shooting, but always bothered me. I finally had a friend who is a master gunsmith straighten it. Looks like S&W could do better at the factory.

    Bodyguard 38 amazing

My Bodyguard is a first year Model 649. It's a very dependable workhorse - No complaints. It was a police trade in and did have a few issues when I got it. S&W put everything back to factory spec and I gave it some TLC (wet sanding and hand polish with Mother's Mag Polish).

Model 36 with three inch barrel?

I've always been partial to the small frame S&Ws. One of my first was a 1914 Perfected Model. This gun was in mint condition when I bought it in the 70s. I've carried and shot it a lot over the years and it still remains a favorite. The Model 36-1 has become my EDC. I bought this 1977-1978...

    Model 36 Value

I personally like the vintage guns over the new ones especially if they are in the 98-99% condition range. You can't buy a new one any cheaper and the prices are going up this year. If you like the gun jump before its gone. Look at it this way, are you going to let it slip by over a few...

    M36-1 J frame

Cool gun. I have the same model in 99+% condition with a round butt configuration. Great shooter. The 3 inch heavy barrel make these a real pleasure on the range. Carries as easily as a 2 inch.

    First J frame

I've been carrying J frames as a part of my work since the 1970s. For a daily working gun it's hard to beat the older Model 60s and the Model 649. I really like the pre-lock guns and the all steel SS construction is a real performer and is more forgiving than the blued models. I've also got...

    You're Gettin' a J Frame....38 or 357...Your Pick??

Neither would be a deal breaker for me as far as caliber. I own both. My Model 60-9 is a .357, however, I have never fired a single .357 through it. Not crazy about the hot round in a snub. The sturdier frame and barrel length work great with everything else. My Model 649 is a first year...

    No love for a Humpback?

Nice Gun. I had a Model 49 several years ago and sold it :-(. Always regretted letting that gun go. I have since replaced it with a first year production Model 649. It's one of my favorite carry guns, especially in the summer months. You got a great price on a classic.

New 38 S&W Ammo Now Here

If the cartridge was that bad, it would not still be in production. It's history alone speaks volumes. Most hollow points don't perform as well as the manufactures claim. I would not count on a one shot stop with any handgun. With smaller lower powered calibers, I'll take penetration any day...

    S&W 38 Perfected Model

Mine is a 4 inch barrel. I generally carry and shoot the factory Remington 146 Grain LRN Bullet. It's 685 feet per second muzzle velocity delivers 150 foot pounds of muzzle energy which is adequate with proper shot placement for SD. The round was first developed in 1877. It was one of the more...
