Got to be a World's record!

I have no idea on the value of this gun (it may very well be worth what was paid), but I do have certain self imposed rules when bidding on GB. The first is never bid against someone with less than five feedback ratings (a generalization, I know). It seems that when these folks start bidding...

    Who are your favorite writers

I too am a Stephen Hunter fan, although his last couple offerings have been IMHO a little . . . . well let's just say not quite on the same level as his earlier books, like Dirty White Boys. I always wanted to read more about ol' Bob king of the jungle.

    Model 41 Accessory

I wasn't aware the muzzle brake had that effect. I have been looking for a 7 3/8" w/ brake, saw an early one go for better that $2200 the other day on GB. Evidently they haven't hurt their value. That is a very unique tool, I have read that leading can be a problem. Never have seen the tool...

    Finally, a 41 for me

Yes. You are correct, but unless that metal follower was of the precious metal variety, It is still ridiculous.

    Question on 41 Magazine and a 422

My model 41 is a 1985 version. The magazines that came with it match (based on your photos) the mag on the right, the one you indicate is for the 422. I am basing this on the following: my mags have both the 5 & 10 indications; the takedown notch is a bit higher; there is no S & W stamp on...

Under Steering Column Holster Mount- Model 627

Having to buy a left handed holster was my thought when I first saw this mounting system. If you watch the video (Universal Vehicle Handgun Holster Mount - Steering Wheel Column Application) you can see the spring clip on the left side of the holster (right handed), but he is running the mount...

Model 686 Early Serial Numbers AADxxxx

Ok, now I am confused. I was of the belief the first year for the 586/686 was '81. My 586 (blued) has a serial #AAA72xx. It is listed in my records as a 1st production year ('81). Do I need to edit my list?

    UTAH CCW class in Illinois

Buford and Lost Lake seem to be correct. As I stated earlier, I took the Utah CCW class in October (at a state college no less), today I received my Utah concealed firearm permit. Right at ten weeks. If you are waiting on a Utah permit, call (801) 957-8512

    UTAH CCW class in Illinois

I live in Illinois, I know you all feel sorry for me, I took a Utah CCW class (in Illinois) back in October. Utah charged my cc in November, I am still waiting. At the time the class was given the instructor said nothing about any changes in the Utah law. Everyone in attendance was under full...

    CC in Illinois, getting ready

There are currently two new bills being mulled over by the state law makers. Because the antis got their butts spanked on the concealed carry they want to take their aggression out and go totally communist overboard on the semi and/or high cap mag thing.

    CC in Illinois, getting ready

While I am not 100% confident, it looks like it is going to happen. Judge Posner's written opinion stated "Nevertheless we order our man-date stayed for 180 days to allow the Illinois legislature to craft a new gun law that will impose reasonable limitations, consistent with the public...

New 586 owner (intro & question)

I'm not sure but I would think one that early should have had the partridge site instead of the red ramp. Maybe someone replaced the original.

Thinking of selling this toy (686-3)

I was feeling pretty good about the $500 (otd) I paid for first year 6" blued 586 (no dash, but w/ the M) I got about a month ago until I looked at the links gumpys provided. With those being SS guns that seem to command a premium, my blue 586 seems high at $500. Those links look like bargains...

    New Guy

Thanks for the warm welcomes, you all know how to make a new guy feel at home. I started a thread in the “S&W Revolvers: 1980 to Present” forum, regarding an '81 586. Looks like I better get some pics up, the natives are getting restless. On another note of great importance to us Illinoisans...

    586 Info

I am not new to double action revolvers, I have a few Colts and one Dan Wesson, but no S&W revolvers. I have always admired the blued S&W 586. Just so happens I recently stumbled on a nice 6” version at a decent price, so I jumped on it. As I do with all new purchases, I first try to...
