i have a pair of 640-1, bought both used as project guns. One had a fair amount of pitting under the grips. They are both refinished, one in chrome. Expensive little guns in the end, but I feel like they will do their job if ever required.
american hand gunner
Their is a nice article about the gun in american handgunner from about June or July last year. With some pictures. There are also so pictures on Marc's site.
porting at night?
I shoot my existing ported gun in the evenings frequently. The muzzle flash with 357 out of any 2 inch gun is significant. But I dont have any problems with it either way. As a pocket gun, I can shoot full house 357s comfortably and accurately. I prefer a 1911, but it is not...
Spoke to Marc at Gemini, and my ultimate J frame package is finished and on its way home on Monday. Not sure I will get it out until next weekend, but I will send you all some pictures once I have it back.

I have shot about 4K of 38sp last year. I had a few hard primers or primers that were set a little deep. Otherwise, some of the best priced ammo that I have been able to find.
I have been shooting the a range of different loads depending on what was available at the time.
Four of us took our J Frame out today for a little comparison.

Check out gemini customs. I have an Ultimate J Frame package that should be done soon, but I can attest to the excellent trigger work and porting on my "executive" version done by Marc earlier this year!
light vs heavier
two weeks ago shot my 640 next to a mp 340. I have to say that shooting 125 normal pressure rounds out of the mp, was worse than full house 357s out of the 640! So my view is that it really depends on your strategy. If you like the light weight gun, and fill it with nyclads...
lead
so far so good. i have been using the georgia arms 125 and 158 round nose. After about 200 rounds it was not as accurate as at the beginning, me or the gun? anyway there was some leading, but it came out as per normal with a bronze brush hopes and shooters choice...

flames of death...
i have not been a fan of the flames of death, or whatever Clint Smith called it... But it shoots very nicely. I prefer a 1911 full size, but in practice I am not carrying it very often.
The porting is not as bad as I expected, from a noise and flames perspective.

Did anybody read the ultimate j frame piece in last month's American Handgunner?
I have a Gemini Customs Executive Package 640 that I got back a couple of weeks ago, and it is a great little gun. I am now planning to get my other one in the "Ultimate" configuration.
