    A simple(ton?) question.

Fellows, I hate to get simple on you, but here goes. A buddy and I got into the dry firing discussion again. So what's the real poop? Can a 29-3 be dry fired without damaging the gun, or not?

    Movies for revolver fans

Miller's Crossing! The fellow sees his man as he enters the room then quickly ducks back out beside the door...The fellow draws a Webley Green Army (.455) and lets him have it through the wall. Plop. I think the gun from Blood Simple is a New Departure. Great movie!

I hear guys say they don't care for nickel...

This is my first modern S&W, and nickel too. I like the look, but it seems hard to keep clean. Oil creates a film that's like goo that won't go away. What are you guys doing to control that?

Big gun, little hands. Grip suggestions, anyone?

Oops, posted this before I saw the great answers on Miss Fires' thread. But rubber or composite stocks are O.K. with me...

    Birthdate for Model 29-3?

I'm having trouble divining the date of mfgr. for my new 29. Here's a picture. What confuses me is the different font for the 'A' in the number. It probably means nothing, but... I have the SCOSW, and if I'm doing it right it falls between Jul. '85 and Nov. 85. Is that correct?

Tell me about nickel plated S&W's

In antique S&W nickel is more common in most of the models, and blued guns are sought after. Like John Traveler says, you do find some crummy looking nickeled guns, but the most pristine guns you find are usually the nickel finished kind. This after over 100 years of sitting in that sock...

    About those Coke bottles...

I'm new at modern S&W stuff, I only have one so far. Here on the site I've heard about Coke bottle stocks, or grip panels. I've just started poking around in "The Catalogue" and have only found a little bit. Were Coke bottle stocks used only on N frames? Did they stop them all together in the...

Has anyone tried a PERFORMANCE CENTER 629-7 44 MAGNUM HUNTER?

I found a PERFORMANCE CENTER 629-7 44 MAGNUM HUNTER, which looks pretty much the gun from outer space. It looks like it could be fun. Has anyone here ever taken one for a spin?

    Donuts on my 686 Cylinder

Exfebee; This is all very good stuff. But what I really want to know is this...what kind of wood are your grips made of? Nice job on the picture, too!

new model 29, new member and questions

The ones I've seen are only a few thousands off from one side to the other. But this has caused previous owners to knock the front sights around to compensate. My guns are mostly antiques, however, and where I've seen this it has been on guns without adjustable sights. Plus more modern...

new model 29, new member and questions

jcleverly76, Can you do me a favor? Take your calipers and mic the barrel thickness at the muzzle in a few places. Is it consistant all around? I've found that some barrels are off center by a bit and reading this I wonder if the factory isn't compensating by rotating the barrel a tad.

    Where to now?

Hello, fellows. This is my first posting here, and I need some advice. I have a fair to middling collection, and understanding of antique Smith & Wessons, now I am interested in learning about the newer stuff. This seems like a good place to start. Mr. Neal and Mr. Jinks' book "Smith &...
