Hello, fellows. This is my first posting here, and I need some advice.

I have a fair to middling collection, and understanding of antique Smith & Wessons, now I am interested in learning about the newer stuff. This seems like a good place to start.

Mr. Neal and Mr. Jinks' book "Smith & Wesson 1857-1945" has served me pretty well to this point. Which book would you suggest next?

I've been looking at model 29s and see there are about ten variants, some are pinned barrels. So I would like to find out about pinned barrels and that idea to start, and go from there.

Thanks!

You may also want to consider "History of Smith & Wesson", by the aforementioned Roy J. Jinks. It goes up through the late 1970's.

Thanks guys. The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson is on the way here now. Thanks for your input!

Don't forget about your local library. They typically have a good many of the S&W reference works that would be of interest, but not of enough repeat use to buy them.
