What are you carrying? Sub-Compact, Compact, or Full Size

I carry a 9mm Shield most of the time, usually in an Alien Gear 2.0 IWB. Sometimes I carry my Glock 19 in a Remora or Crossbreed Supertuck. And when the cold winds blow I occasionally carry a full-size Ruger SR45 in an Alien Gear IWB.

Shield 45 and the Grip is Amazing!! UPDATE, range report

Yeah, I think it's both ugly and silly. Pretty worthless as cocking serrations.

What makes the Shield9 so pleasurable to shoot?

If such a thing were possible, I'd say S&W hit a 6-run homer when they developed the Shield. I think it's the best carry gun on the market, bar none.

Anyone carry a Glock 36 as their EDC?

I carried my G36 for years. Mine always goes bang and is accurate but when I bought my Shield 9mm, which recoils much less and has an extra round and is slimmer and lighter, my G36 was relegated to my 2nd or 3rd carry choice. I think it's a really good choice. But certainly not the only one.

    Model 57 Again

I had a 57 back in the 80's. I also owned several Model 29 .44 Magnums. I much preferred the .41 Magnum. I miss those old Smith revolvers! I traded/bought/sold guns back then as often as most people change underwear.:D

best experience with a off brand

I had an Astra A80 .45 years ago ... kind of a SIG-Sauer P220 copy with the hammer drop lever. Doggone thing was all steel and tough as nails and shot well. As I recall, recoil was totally negligible too. It was totally reliable and was my home defense gun for awhile. I was never a fan of the...

Reducing wear on 3rd gen alloy frame rails/ramps?

A lot of wear is self-limiting. Once things settle in, you won't see much more. I'm sure it's normal and fine. As others have said, keep guns lubed and replace the recoil spring every few thousand rounds and you're good!

    M&P Shield 9mm / Anyone having issues?

A buddy of mine did have issues with his Shield 9. He sent it back to S&W twice - on their dime - and it still jammed. They finally sent him a whole new Shield, which has been flawless (as has mine). The point is this: anybody can turn out a lemon now and then. And the process played out over a...

    Considering M&P Shield 9MM for Concealed Carry~Any Suggestions~

Here's another vote for the Shield. Best CCW gun I've ever owned. Great performer at a fantastic price.

    AMMO FOR MP SHIELD 9MM

I do have this load in the backup magazine, mainly because I just happen to have it on hand. The Shield's primary load is the Hornady Critical Duty 124gr. Any of the modern hollow point loads by reputable ammo companies are just fine. I like the concept of the polymer tip in the Critical Duty...

    Dedicated "nightstand" guns

My nightstand gun has been the same for the past 20 years: a Gen2 Glock 19 sporting Trijicon night sights loaded with 9mm goodness.

    Paris Simulation vs Armed Civilians

Fascinating thread. As others have said, I have no illusions or delusions about looking like Liam Neeson and fending off multiple terrorists armed with AK's with my Shield 9mm or 7-shot Glock 36 .45. But, by God, I'd rather have a fighting chance with my handgun than absolutely no shot...

    Getting me a Shield

To me, the Shield was a total game changer. I've been a confirmed Glock guy for years but wanted a concealable single stack 9mm and the first time I picked up a Shield, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. I bought one a few months later and it's my most carried handgun. It's an...

    New m&p9 shield issue

New Shields are tighter than a tic. Magazine springs and the recoil spring group are really tight sometimes. I'm a very experienced shooter and was shocked the first time I tried to field strip my Shield 9mm. Just getting the slide to lock back took a lot of effort. Once it's been shot a few...

    M&P Shield 9MM

My sentiments exactly. I use the same drill on every auto I shoot, including my 1911.

first 500 rnds thru 9mm shield

Don't let that single stovepipe bother you. I had one early on too and have never had a problem since. I think the recoil spring group is pretty tight (maybe helps cut down recoil) but, man, after this baby gets broken in, it runs like a Swiss watch. Smith & Wesson owes me sales commission...

    More confident with a revolver?

I'm now completely an auto guy. Back in the day, I used S&W or Colt revolvers for self defense. But I had terrible luck with my Colts, in particular: I had one lock up totally. It wouldn't index and as I recall I had a hard time even getting the cylinder to release so I could unload it. A...
