What ammo are you using? make sure you try several different types just in case you have one thats picky.
For the OP, I have never owned a gun before and thought the 15-22 would be a good starter purchase that would last me a while. I can say it is easy to use, cheap for what you arre getting...
So tomorrow after church is another range day. I'm pumped about it for a few reasons:
1. I don't get to go to the range that often
2. I really enjoy shooting the 15-22
3. I got a new NC Star red dot sight/laser combo that I really want to sight in!
4. Any day spent shooting a gun is a good day...
At the gun and knife show here in Slidell, La, they had some here for $499. I almost punched myself in the face right there in front of the retailer for not waiting to look at the show to get my 15-22. They are having another gun and knife show in Kenner, La (about an hour from here in the New...
1. 550 rounds of federal bulk, 100 rounds of CCI minimag
2. Spent the "trouble from lady" allowance on the actual gun
3. target was maybe 25 yards
4. I cleaned it before taking it to the range
5. Ya, one or two more mags
6. Any optic that can see 50 yds-100 yds so we can see what we are hitting...

This is a thread I started in order to get an idea exactly like you.
We were definitely sweating. It was upper 90's here and south Louisiana humidity makes 90 feel like wearing a warm wet blanket on a hot day! I'm just glad I wasn't the poor sap that sat to my right!
Took the 15-22 out to the range yesterday. Shot 650 rounds.
We had 3 guys out shooting and had a blast!
Turns out we had too much fun and didn't bother too much with accuracy. The rapid fire went perfect. Not one error and we were shooting at least 2-3 shots/second.
No one fail to feed...
I like this idea and plan on doing this with mine! Starting off with BB guns and pellet guns and then when I feel that they are comfortable, moving to the .22.
Thanks for the input fellas! I am planning on cleaning mine after every shooting session since I don't see me having enough time to shoot more than 4 times a year.
More input!
I would say it depends on each individual child. I know some kids age 12-13 that I wouldn't trust a BB gun with much less a firearm. I would start them off with BB guns or pellet guns until they get the basics of safety engrained in them.
A cheap BB gun runs around $20 and they can break it...
I am relatively new to gun ownership and recently purchased my 15-22. I cleaned it and will be able to go shooting next weekend. But as I research more about these 15-22's I seem to find that there is no real consensus on how often you owners clean your guns.
So here it is, post your personal...
Down here in south Louisiana our wal-marts are always stocked with both the federal bulk and the cci. No sure why ANY decent department manager wouldn't stock something that is leaving the shelves unless they are getting away from carrying it. In that case, what would we do for all the federal!!??
About the upgrades, right now all I want to do is a cheap vertical foregrip with a retractable bipod like this one.

Then I'll need a few more mags =)
Yes sir, finally got it after 2 years of research and am pumped about going to shoot it on the 23rd! I wanted the MOE version but it wasn't available at the time and the price was nice. I believe out the door, shipping and tax totaled around $527.
