Are the Days of the 9mm Compact Numbered?

My Glock 42 begs to differ, but my S&W 642 says "Preach on, brother"! (Then again, the 42 has an identity crisis, and chaffs when you call it a subcompact).

    Federal Hydra-Shok

I've carried it in all my pistols chambered for .380acp. I've researched a lot of .380 ammo, and Hydra Shoks appear to be the most reliable in terms of expansion and penetration. I also carry a 642, but unfortunately the .38spcl Hydra Shok is a marginal performer. When it comes to my snubby...

    Ways to carry 442

I prefer pocket carry, and use the inexpensive Uncle Mike's or Blackhawk pocket holsters. I also carry my 642 in an IWB holster. As small and light as a snubby is, I haven't found any one IWB holster that is actually any better than another.

    Gun Ownership Survey

The NRA can only do so much. The rest is up to us to keep an eye on politicians. Where do they stand on the 2nd? But just as importantly, where do they stand on the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments? The other 10 Amendments are just as important, but the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments...

    Gun Ownership Survey

I'm not concerned whether gun sales are up or down. As long as my 2nd Amendment rights are not at stake, I'm good to go. The exact intent of the 2nd Amendment has been a matter of disagreement for years. If you're solidly pro-gun, you focus on the "Shall not be infringed" part of the wording...

What WheelGun Would You Carry if You Were Made a Deputy TODAY??

As a Parole Officer in Texas, I carried a Chief's Special/637. TDCJ-PD has some very specific guidelines on what can be carried, and how it can be carried. As a parole officer, the odds are pretty slim you're going to get into a running gun battle - the more likely scenario is that you will walk...

    Pics inside your safe taboo?

I think that the risks of doing this kind of get played-up a little bit. However, I always question why people want to post pictures of anything other than relatively rare guns. You say that you just bought a new Glock 19? We're gun guys and gals, and we like to hear about stuff like that; but...

    Armscor?

Their .22wmr is some dirty stuff. Don't use it in a NAA revolver cuz it'll spit little hot embers on your hand.

Are the Days of the 9mm Compact Numbered?

I think that the 9mm compact has a long road ahead of it. I've had the pleasure of shooting a CZ 75 RAMI, a Glock 19, and a Bersa compact 9mm, and they were all great guns. I think that if any 9mm pistol is doomed, it's the subcompact. I've tried both Ruger's and Kahr's offerings, and I just...

Current carry: what's on you right now?

642 in the front pocket, and a NAA .22wmr mini at 3:00 in a little holster/scabbard thing.

    Why wadcutters for self-defense?

Also, if you use gonzo super hot, or even mildly hot, home brewed self-defense rounds you can find yourself being portrayed as some sort of whacko vigilante or unstable "gun nut" by either the prosecution or the plaintiff's attorney during the ensuing civil trial. In this case, the other side is...

    Why wadcutters for self-defense?

I can only wish I had as much as that. I've got the Remington version of that load, and it's what I keep in my snubby. The old FBI Load is a nasty beast of a round. That big old cavernous hollow point wad cutter is hard to beat, and it's been effectively inducing thugs to take dirt naps for...

Forgive me. I am weak. (New toy)

Swee-eet! Don't feel too bad, a 642 followed me out of Academy this morning. And I feel real bad about it, too... or sumpin'.

    Hello From Johson County, TX.

Had a malfunction with my Taurus Model 85 last week. I hate being without a snubby, so I went to Academy today and picked up an S&W Model 642. Very nice snubby, and it rests in my pocket as I type this. (Much nicer gun than the M85, BTW). Since I now own an S&W, I figured I'd join the S&W Forum...
