I've been going to various forums for quite some time and while pictures of individual guns are quite common, I have rarely seen pictures of the inside of someone's safe. On the forums, your anonymity is pretty secure and the chances of being robbed or threatened by a forum member seems remote. Is there some unwritten taboo I'm unaware of?

It's not the citizens that worry us, really. At least one government monitors forums like this 24/7. Count on it.

This is what my safe looks like today. I lost it and its contents in a boating accident. Any pictures you see of guns I claim to be mine are nothing but lies and fabrications to help boost my low self-esteem.

Never had a safe. Thought about getting one for awhile but sold my last gun at a gun show a few weeks back. Used the proceeds to buy another refrigerator to store all of my peanut butter and jelly. However, I still enjoy reading about everyone else's possessions.

I never understood the notion of having guns making you a target for thieves. Guns have little value compared to other collections. Also, if I were a thief, I'd be looking for a house that did not have guns.

Posting a picture of a safe full of diamonds and Rolex watches, with a bumper sticker that said, "Ban Gun's". That would make you a target. IMHO.

Most safes are not very picturesque, just bad angles of guns stacked too close to each other.

As far as the government goes, they pretty much know what you have, and will come and get it if they want.

I would love to post a picture of something illegal, just as a test to see if anybody actually shows up. Ed.

For the record, I own nothing illegal, love my country, and pose no threat to anybody. :)

^ Actually, for some criminal actors, stolen firearms have a staggeringly high value. Certainly not the same value as cash, or Rolex watches or lots of other things, but a lot.

As for forum anonymity - not just no, hell no. Very little anyone posts on most forums cannot be found. Google and other search engines regularly return stuff from this forum. It is open to anyone to read without being a member. I doubt it is as much of a personal safety fail as Facebook and similar stupidity, but anything that happens here is almost as public as putting it on a billboard.

I think that the risks of doing this kind of get played-up a little bit. However, I always question why people want to post pictures of anything other than relatively rare guns.

You say that you just bought a new Glock 19? We're gun guys and gals, and we like to hear about stuff like that; but why do you need to show anybody a picture of it - we all know what one looks like, and yours is gonna be no different than anyone else's. You say you have a whole locker full of guns? OK, cool. But why do you feel the need to show them off? I just don't get the motivation. Besides, showing off a locker full of guns might just be of interest to agencies that, of course, strictly abide by the Bill of Rights and "do not illegally monitor the activities of law abiding citizens." (I don't think that concern is over-played in the least).

Now, tell us that you just acquired a NIB Japanese Nambu pistol? That is worth showing off! I'd sure want to see it. That's akin to the Holy Grail to gun enthusiasts, and I'm pretty sure we'd all want to see it.

I think it would be interesting to see what some folks here have in their safes. If I had a safe I wouldn't show it though.
