I've have several after market mags that work fine but not with pro mags. IThey didn't feed at all in my full size MP1.0, and they were very sporadic in my AR. I had a couple for my AK and while one functioned ok, the other didn't even fit. I just say no to pro mag products now.

Never heard that pulling the trigger instead of using the lever could cause damage. I've done it a hundred times and have not had an issue. I don't have a problem using the lever, but pulling the trigger to breakdown is a force of habit.
