Years ago I purchased a M1500 Deluxe in 7mm Remington Mag. It is an absolutely beautiful rifle, with a gorgeous Monte Carlo stock. I sent off the bolt to get it fixed, which was quite painless, and exactly what many forums state. Oh, I even have the S&W pamphlet to go along with the rifle, which is a neat little tidbit to have.
So, my question is, what is the story on this rifle? I have shot it several times, it shoots great, even out to 300+ yards it groups well. It doesn't seem to be terribly collectible, is what I am alluding to. Any suggestions?

Hello Robby
Your S&W Model 1500 was made by Howa of Japan and Imported to S&W. it was the second generation of Imported rifle's that S&W Marketed. The First Generation rifles were made by Husqvaran of Sweeden. The Model 1500's never grew to the same level of Fame that their earlier Imported cousin's from Sweeden did although they look good and shoot well, Japan made rifles were not favored over other's of Eureopean imports as Sako, Husqvarna and Such. The Model 1500 is exact to that of the Weatherby Vanguard models that were marketed in the Late 1970's-to early 1980's time span.I have had Plenty of the model 1500 rifles like your's in the past. They have all looked well and shot good, but I now have switched my focus towards the earlier Imported Husqvarna S&W Marketed rifles as I prefer their excellent machining work, fit, finish, and fine accuracy. I hope this information helps. Regards, Hammerdown

The same Howa actions are now used by Weatherby in their Vanguard series of rifles. The S&W 1500 and the Weatherby Vanguard are both excellent rifles and usually very accurate.

Hello
This is true. I don't know When Weatherby changed to having their Vanguard series of rifle's made by Howa, but in 1978 my Dad traded a Sako A-5 Deluxe Pre-Garcia rifle chambered in Remington .222 caliber for a Weatherby Vanguard rifle chambered in .270 caliber for me. I took that rifle to Alaska where I worked for a year or so on the Alaska pipe line as a welder and had a chance to hunt with it. I bagged a nice Large Bull Moose with it, then I went on a Hunt to Kodiak island to hunt Grizzly bear with it. I shot a Griz at 200 Yard's with it, and it never Phased him. As he was making his way toward's me I managed to get four more round's into him, the last one breaking his spine, as I had a quarter shot agle on him which put him down. I learned very quickly that the .270 Caliber was not Near enough round to take out a Grizzly Bear, I never hunted them again as it was Pretty scarey seeing that & when we dressed him out two of my shot's had exploded his Heart yet he still Traveled almost 150 Yard's further with his Heart exploded. My Buddy who was huting with me had a Rifle chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum and he said that caliber was a bare Minimum for hunting Grizzly bear's. He lauged for months afterward's of our hunt at how shook up I was after shooting that bear, They are very hard to drop & I have no desire to ever Hunt them again. Regards, Hammerdown

Back in the early 80's you could get them as barreled actions very cheaply. I had one in 7mm Mag that I bedded in a Brown Precision stock back in '84 that shot lights out. Never should've sold it.
