Why in the world would S&W send the FPC out without open sights?

That makes it a non starter for me. Just buting cheap sights will set one back $100 on top of the gun price. I DO NOT want a red dot, green dot or any kind of dot on a folding carbine that is gonna do truck duty under the rear seat.

They probably tried to get the lowest price point. If they added the sites, the gun would cost more.

I agree it's odd. Many AR style rifles don't have them but these are intended for longer range shooting, and many would put an optic on their FPC even if it had iron sights, but still...

Now Caje, you're a smart guy, so you already know that the answer to nine out of ten questions is money. Also, it does seem that no matter what manufacturers put on one of these 'modern rifles', people always talk about the changes they made to the sights, so why not leave them off to begin with.

What kind of sights do you want?

AR-15 style front sight permanently attached to the barrel?

Fixed front and rear from Daniel Defense?

Plastic Magpul Gen 3 folding front and rear sights?

Plastic Gen 2 folding front and rear sights sights?

Metal front and rear sights from Midwest Industries Combat Rifle Folding Sights?

Metal folding HK style front and rear sights from Troy Industries?

How about offset folding front and rear sights from Ultradyne?

I am just listing a few of the aftermarket types of sights that will easily attach to the FPC. Regardless of what type of sight S&W would chose someone would post complaints about it.

With the sights mounted on the hand guard, they are just a bit forward to be good with an aperture rear. I tried a set off of a CZ Scorpion sights on mine and the front sight flew off at about the 35-40th round I fired through it. I'm sure that was caused by the flexing in the hand guard.

Now it wears a low mounted Trijicon RMR in a protected wing mount.

So many options I'm sure S&W figured most of them would be swapped off of the gun for another sight as soon as the owner got them home.

If it were my gun, I would put some folding Magpul sites on it that I bought years ago cheap and never used and put them in a drawer. If I later decided I wanted a hologram or red dot sight I would just fold down the Magpul sites and leave them on as back ups.

I don’t mind the fact I have to install the sights I prefer. It just enhances the platform for me.
Here’s my set up.

It was never made for open sights. I think if you were to put AR style aperture sights on it you will find that the rear sight is too far forward.
The FPC was not designed to wear irons, it was designed to eat Kel-Tec's lunch by offering a simple solution to mounting electro-optical sights, which is the Sub2K's greatest weakness.
If you want a tiny, lightweight, bombproof folding carbine that can fit inside a small backpack and features iron sights, you want a Sub2K. That's not the FPC.

I wonder if some kind of shotgun ghost ring would work as a rear sight. The Mojo company has made aperture rears for mounting in place of the barrel mounted rear sights on Mausers, Mosins and SMLEs.

The way things are going in today's manufactering. Omitting sights is a way to reduce warranty claims for something else that wasn't correct from the factory.

Well after handling the Ruger9mm with a ghost ring on the barrel, I must disagree. I got a great sight picture with it and mounting low profile ghost ring and post on the Smith would give the same eye relief

Interesting concept. Looks a little too kel-teccy for my tastes. Why add cheap sights that the customer is going to remove and throw in his junk drawer so he can add his favorite dot with some irons. PCCs are dot guns or lowpower scope guns imo. I like the Vortex Strikefire with offsets on my .45 pcc’s.
