I'll apologize if this has been asked before but I've searched and can't really find what I'm looking for so....

My state just passed a sweeping "assault weapon ban" that will quickly ban the sales of any/all semi auto centerfire rifles after next week. I already have "what I want" for AR's/ black rifles but thought it might be a good time to pick up a 9mm carbine. ( I have no need for a 9mm carbine but this is a buy now or forever hold your peace" thing. ) Anyway, I went into my LGS yesterday looking for a 9mm carbine to play with at the range from time to time. Some initial but hasty research pointed me towards the FPC over the usual candidates like the KelTec 2000 , Ruger, etc. Mainly, I like SW products but the fact that I already own 10 M&P 9mm mags didn't hurt that steerage either. When I got there, they told me that they were sold out of FPC's but did have one Response left. To be 100% honest, I wasn't even aware of the Response model prior to walking in. However, once I handled it , I decided I liked the ARish feel and controls of this rifle. I bought it on the spot. I actually like the rifle quite allot although it has not been to the range yet. So my question is: Am I missing out on anything ( besides the folding feature) in the FPC that I won't get with the Response? Does the FPC excell in any area over the Response? Do I need to go buy a FPC as well just to be sure? :-)

p.s. Before the relocation talk starts... I know the evolving situation here sucks but I just can't move. I'm 66 with health issues and my entire family ( Read: mother, kids, brothers, sisters, grandkid, etc) lives here. I also have a medically involved son that needs his current doctors and support structure. Going to a free state is just not an option in the foreseeable future. So, I need to swallow my rage and live with it.

Haven't done anything with the Response. I do own the FPC and love it. Don't know that you can go wrong with either one. Since you have plenty of M&P mags it shouldn't be an issue but you can always change to Glock should the need arise. Be interesting if they make adapters for other manufactures.

Sorry for your circumstances, it is a pity that you are stuck where you are but it is even worse that the people where you live feel it necessary to go against the Constitution of the United States, hopefully it will be overturned.

Well, it ate at me all morning so I went looking to see if I could find a FPC at any shop that could be handled. It took 3 shops ( all in chaos) but I managed to find a single FPC ( which had just arrived on the USP truck). Crazy times but I now own both the Response and the FPC. Chances are, I'll test drive them both and maybe flip one next year when there are none to be had. ( Or maybe I fall in lust and thank myself for buying both. :-))

I live here in the PRM too. Make sure you check the GOAL web site. Also there will be petitions coming round to recall this bill. Get everyone you can to sign. The petitions will put the bill on hold and be on the ballot in Nov. Get out and VOTE,

Get what you can while the getting is good ...
Soon you may not be able to own one ...
and you will be kicking yourself for letting this one get away .

Get out and Fight with your VOTES ... bring people with you to the polls ! Things do not Have to be this way .

I bought an fpc for my son, with an “okay” green dot.. not one failure and very accurate out to 35 yards, which is the farthest we have at the moment. We have put 1000 rounds of cheap range ammo through it… he and I love it.

I've had a few 9mm AR carbines and a PSA 4" 9mm AR pistol, in both colt smg (metalform mags) and Glock mags. All ran fine but for me were just too heavy or just didn't do it for me.
For reference, I do have ARs in six other calibers, so I like the platform.
I already had a gen 2 SUB2k when I bought my FPC so didn't need the folder, but I liked the weight, the ergonomics and the trigger. All my S&W semi autos were Shields so I didn't have mags stockpiled.
Having the mag in the grip makes for a pretty short overall package compared to the Response.
No bad choice here but for me the FPC was kind of unique and while it's not as compact when folded as the SUB, it's much more fun to shoot, and more accurate.

I am pretty happy w/ my FPC. Some of it's use is as a car gun while we travel. We both carry M&P compacts so nice that mags interchange. But FPC itself in the plain jane carry bag w/ 50+ rounds right in/on the gun and no need for additional mag pouches = nice.

My wife has owned a FPC for a few months now bought as a fun gun not a defensive firearm and no longer cares much about it . The mags in the rear are not a plus when loaded to my wife and changes the balance to much as there fired and she wished the length of pull was adjustable like her AR15 or my or our older AR9 fun gun . If we need a shoulder fired weapon when out and about travel it well still be a AR15 10.5" with a folder and brace . Yea weight is heavier but that is a far better balanced weight and the lighter recoil than ether 9mm thanks to the right mix of parts .

The fpc will more than likely end up with one of our girls .

Now the responce to me is not an option as its only plus for some is the mag options of a M&P or glock mag. The upper , lower and bcg are not normal AR designs so changing parts is not possible . MY AR9 I assembled can become a 5.56 upper in 2 minutes . Remove the mag adaptor and added the 5.56 upper .

BUt hey , the fpc sold well for a while and the responce is ok for some too out side of the recall .
