new 25 round 15-22 magazine

Would that be 10 boxes of the Winchester 333?
Yep. on neither the S&W "approved" nor "disapproved" list. Headstamped Super-X, but maybe all Winchester ammo is stamped like this. Went thru a previous box without blowing up the rifle...

I just got 2 10/25 magazines (blue followers) in the mail from S&W this week. Ordered them a few weeks ago. Similar to the original poster, the new ones have the words "22lr" on the side in addition they also now say "10 Round." I will take a picture tonight and post.

I did not compare these new ones with the extra markings to the old blue follower mag that shipped with the gun. Didn't suspect anything. Nor have I shot with the new mags yet.

Just got my 2 free mags in the mail today and there are some slight differences I found.

The mag with the red follwer is the original 25 round mag. The blue follower in the new 10 round mag seems to stick a lot further than the red one.

I also took it apart and noticed the new mags have a longer spring in them.

I hope this helps the common problems with this rifle.

Great post, Sick. That's the most encouraging thing I have seen to date.

Phil, I agree. I have 4 of these "old models" If I call them what do you think my chances of exchanging all 4 old for 4 new. I'm still getting mag snags here and there  If I call I'll post my results.

STILL NO LOAD ASSIST BUTTON!? *** is wrong with S&W?! Are they mental?

Spring doesnt seem to be longer just stretched out further. Did a crude count on that pic and both springs seem to have 30 coils.

Anyone else get the same results??

In regards to magazines, I think S&W CS will tell you whatever pops into their head at any given moment. That has been their MO to date.

Quick question since were talkin bout springs in mags. How many of yall keep your mags loaded 24/7? Surly this reduces the length of the spring....

Not to mention that was a comparison between a 25 rd and and a 10 rd mag. Want to see 2 25's beside each other.

I had to send my 15-22 back for the OOB I sent in the mag according the instructions. I got the 15-22 back and took it out yesterday for a trial run. Rounds 1-150 were perfect. Between rounds 150- 400, I had 9 FTL where the round gets stuck vertically in the mag. After being ready to send it back, I noticed that one of my four mags didn’t have a problem. I started looking them over and noticed that the one with out a problem also said “22 LR” with “25 Round” underneath.

picture 1 is the old mag on the right and the new on the left.

I looked over the new different mags and didn’t see anything different and just figured it was to differentiate between the 25 round and the new pinned 10 round. So I continued to shoot the rest of what I had and between rounds 400-500. I had 1 more FTL, but never with the new mag. Shot 125 rounds and no more problems, I think it may finally be breaking in.

After shooting I looked closer at the mags and noticed the new mag was slightly different than the old ones. not by much but I think it might help. If you look at the two mags below the new one is on the left and the old on is on the right. If you look at the orange slider from the front, you can see about four millimeters on the old one and three on the new one. The difference is in the black housing of the mag. In the new one it sticks up further. Picture 2

This causes the bullet to be slightly angled upwards when the round leaves the mag compared to the old mag which is more horizontal.

Rip, do you mind posting a picture of your old and new springs. We would like to see if there's a difference in the 2, 25 rd mags. It appears the 10 rd mag spring is different. I would like to see if this is also the case with the 25 rd mags.:)

Is it possible that the new one is slightly more " sturdy " or thicker? Even with the same amount of coils, that would make a difference if it was stronger. Is your picture comparing 2 25 rd mags?

Also, a new spring is almost always longer..

Also, a 25 round spring put into a 25 round mag, but only compressed by 10 bullets is nowhere near the compression of 25 rounds.

25 is probably a little over compressed IMHO!!!

I also think it's over compressed. I see a lot of people on this forum that say to only load to 24 rds. Maybe their on to something. Something else I always wondered about: When you take apart the mag, The spring goes on the load assist with one side of the spring laying completly flat on the load assist button. The other side is not the same, only part of the spring lays on the assist button. I know that the load assist rides on those rails so it shouldn't matter but, I think even a microscopic difference might effect how 1 rd is loaded. Just an observation, it could be nothing but, I always wondered if it matters:confused:

both springs are exactly alike in a new 25 and old 25
