Green Laser

well, im glad you ask (i needed to vent)

Phone call #1: I called viridian and got a CS rep and i told him which model I had and explained that it was shutting off every few rds.. He then tried to tell me that was a feature of the system that it is setup so that after a mag is emptied it will auto shut off so to not make the person holding it a target while they reload and can be programmed to different shot counts.

Yes, they all must come from the same CS school! I'm glad CPhil asked about that because you must feel better now.

I'm curious about the feature that shuts the light off after the mag is emptied............it stays on if you only fire 2 or 3 shots? And then goes out after the mag is empty? I was taught to count the shots but if they have a new fangled "warning light", I guess that ought to work. Can you get one w/ a heated grip and iron sight defroster?

im pretty sure that feature is ment for swat and military use in low light or no light situations.. if your trying to swap out a mag in the dark and your laser is still on it makes you the brightest target in the room. Ive read where some set theirs up on 2 shots so that its on till you doble tap ten its off but its like any feature its a selling point wether you use it or not

Needless to say the old lady was pretty upset when she found out that the 17 dollar laser that was working I had removed and put on a 200 dollar non working one..

LOL! That, my friend, is a classic storyline throughout many episodes of my married life. Thanks for sharing. :D

I wanted to buy a green laser and was speaking to the tech at Lasermax. He asked why I wanted a green one. Told him it was the latest thing, military uses them, greater range etc etc. He laughed and said get the red one! He said there is no green diode so they have to use a red one and add additional components to convert it to green. This fact makes the cost much higher, battery life much much less than a red one, larger physical size and decreases the reliability. He said that unless you have a specific need that requires a green one stick with the red until they have a green diode which he does not foresee in the near future.

I went ahead and got a Lasermax red and am very satisfied with it.

I miss my Wicked brand green laser. I bought it for use in the office in Philly and it was stolen from my glove box when my car was being worked on. When I got back to Michigan a friend bought the same one and we had the dot bright as hell out at 200 yards during the day. Too bad they don't make weapon mounted lasers, though I have no idea how the one I had would stand up to recoil.

They do make lasers that can cut tape and light cigarettes for less than $100 though.

If I could find a set of 36mm rings I'd mount my WickedLasers Arctic G2 (1000mw blue).. I just want to be next to a guy popping holes in his paper while I set mine on fire without firing a shot :)

Actually most of the green lasers initially generate InfraRed light at a wavelength of 1064 nanometers and feed a frequency doubler crystal to cut the wavelength in half to 532nm (visible green). There's not much difference in battery life, but there are some efficiency losses in the crystals.
Green lasers seem to be brighter than red at similar power levels because the human eye is most sensitive to light in the 520nm - 570nm wavelength portion of the spectrum.
There are direct emission laser diodes in the green range, but they're still quite new and ridiculously expensive.

Can you tell I need to get out more?

(BTW: I light my cigars with a laser... sad, but true: YouTube - Wicked Lasers Arctic.G2 - Lighting a Cigar )

Oh my.... ChattanoogaPhil is thinking of the mischief that could be created with that toy... :D

Here ya go Phil...

15 feet away.. kinda hard to hold it steady.
Burn through time: ~2-3 seconds
Holes enlarged themselves by edge burning... bonanza map style.

Last year, I bought 3 Firefield Green Laser Sights from Sportsman's Guide(cost about $55 each with Buyer's Club) These are the old style and have cheap set screws for adjustments(If you ever buy this Laser, go to the parts store and get some better screws) The new style has hand adjustment turrets.
I put one on an Olympic Arms OA93(Cool factor of 10+++).
I put one on an AK with the Advanced Technologies Strikeforce stock(also very cool)
I was waiting for the perfect gun to put the last one on and I finally found it:D
I bought my 15-22 this weekend thru an ad in the weekly advertiser(Gotta love those private sales)
The previous owner had put on a Burris 3X-9X-40mm Rimfire scope, so I left it on.
I put the Laser on the top of the Forend and the scope's line of sight misses it:D
For now, I have both the scope and laser sighted in at 40 yards. That's the distance from my bench(picnic table) to the wood pile.
The scope works well and the Green Beam Machine is just a lot of fun. At night it seems that it goes on forever. During the day, point it into the shadows or at an old reflective road sign and it shows up very nicely.
So, today at dusk, I aligned every thing, loaded up 2 25 rounders, 1 with CCI Minis, 1 with CCI Regs, did the "From The Hip" thing and made that wood pile dance:D:D

Im using the AIM green laser with the external windage and elevation knobs. MUCH better than the first laser they sent me( the wrong model) that had four... FOUR windage and elevation screws to adjust! Needless to say that went right back in the box ASAP lol. This laser can be seen very easily in the brightest of daylight several hundred yards away. So far, at least its been a great and accurate tool for shooting.

What's the SKU# for the model you have?
Does it hold adjustment well?
I've got a bottom-of-the-line UAG that's all over the paper... a different POI with every shot!

The brand name is AIM and the model number is LG002. And yes it has held a perfect zero now ever since I mounted it for about 600 rounds and counting.
It has 2 external adjustment knobs. The caps unscrew like typical scope caps do, and then you adjust the sights with a screwdriver, dime etc. The laser adjusts with the usual 1/4 MOA per click. I'd be happy to post "up close" pics of the laser and the adjustment knobs if you would like to see them. But it can be seen at a normal distance in the picture thread. As I am the last post that has pictures, well at least so far.

Cool... that's the one I thought. Looks like it can be had at a pretty good price as well. Thanks!

Believe it or not...well let me tell this story in full, its gonna be a long one, and I DO mean long lol. I ordered a small green laser for my XD 9 mm on eBay. The one I recieved had a few scratches on it, and when contacted by the company for feedback. I informed them of the scratches, but it was not a big deal, just it was obvioulsy used and not new, like the auction listed it as being.

Well, They sent me out a brand new still in the wrapped package green laser. I then contacted them back to return the other one to them. Never even after at LEAST 10 attempts to get a return RMA to them, no one ever contacted me back. So fast forward. I sale one of my XD9mm pistols, and decide to throw in the green laser as I had yet to use it, and now had 2 of the same laser, just one was slighlty scratched. So I give that one away with the pistol as it sold.

Fast forward again.. I took my other XD to the local indoor range, and fired off a few rounds. I had installed the new one on this pistol. And during the install, my wife called me to answer the doorbell. I forget that I had just barely tightened the mount to the pistol. I fire off about 4 shots and ZINNGGG.. it flies off. breaking the something inside, and it wont turn on now.. Totally my fault.

A few days pass, and I get a email from the company I had been emailing trying to return the green laser. They inform me they had a massive loss of records during a crash, and saw they had sent me a replacement laser, and was curious to if I had actually gotten it or not( I forgot to leave ebay feedback). They provide me with a phone number to contact them. So I call them up and I tell them, ya I have it, but its broken. They tell me to ship it back. As it has a lifetime warranty. I PLAINLY tell the guy( one of those BARELY speaks English guys) that I had sold the one I ACTUALLY purchased. And this one was just a return.

We get into a conversation of what type of weapon I had attached it to. I tell him about the springfield XD9. I then, just making normal conversation tell him I was looking to buy a longer/larger version, as I had a new rifle now. He told me, I can upgrade you to the newest model since your is broken, and you have had all this issues with our customer service. And they have a lifetime warranty. I tell him I sold the one I bought, this was a 2nd one I just wound up with, and wanted to return it for repair to them as it was technically theirs any way.

We hang up, and I have the stuff emailed to me to return the broken laser. A few days AFTER I mailed the broken one to them I recieve a package. ANOTHER smaller green laser. I call them back, tell them I had recieved it. The guy asks my name, adress etc etc. I give him this info. Before I could go any further, the guy tells me that HES sorry. His records on his screen shows that I was to recieve a LG002 model with external windage and adjustment knobs.

Instead I received the SAME previous model as I had sold AND tried to return for nearly 3 weeks. He then tells me not to worry, as He will send me the correct Green laser with expedited shipping. Then he tells me to have a good day. I do the same to him, thank him for helping me. I then Hang up and enjoy my now free LARGER/newest model rifle laser 2 days later lol! Im not going to go through ALL of that again, lol So I have a NEW( slightly used now) green smaller version laser for sale if any one is interested lol.

Now to the question of cost. I got the smaller original green laser on eBay for around 50 dollars. This newer version sales for around 100-145 give or take. Told you it was gonna be long lol. I CANT wait for replies to this post lol.
