Can anyone recommend a clamp-on gas block with a single rail that will match the height of the existing handguard rails, and won't require any gunsmithing or shimming to fit?

The 15-22 barrel is 0.669" and the standard profile AR barrel is 0.75". I cut a piece of 0.032" brass stock and bent it to use it as a shim on mine, but the gas block is lower than the plane of the receiver rail. The same-plane gas blocks are considerably more than the $23.99 I paid for my 4 rail gas block.

Cornfedrebel- If you don't already have the Troy flip up sight, you can order one for a gas block and it will be the right height. I'm still playing around to find the best solution for mine.

I've been wondering if the front sight from the colt m4 ops .22lr would fit. Im pretty sure I saw pictures of the m4 next to a 15-22 on the picture thread. Can anyone mic out the diameter on the m4 barrel?

I searched on google for quite awhile and didn't find the info anywhere.

If the Colt Ops uses an air soft barrel shroud like I suspect it does... It's .750 because Airsoft AR's use standard A2 sight posts.. :)

I just picked up an armalite clamp on a2 sight base. It is designed for a .750 barrel, but it should be easy enough to make a sim for the barrel. I was thinking of using thin wall.750" chromoly tubing and cutting it to fit.

Car parts stores sell brass shim stock in varying thicknesses. Cheap, easy, requires no machining and won't mar the barrel.

I'd still prefer one that didn't need shimming tho.

The Colt M4 .22LR and H&K .22LR series barrel diameter is less than .750 by .005 to .010 so you can probably assume the diameter where the front sight post attaches is .750.

Installed my A2 sight block on the barrel tonight. Took me about an hour to do it....and that was figuring out exactly how to accomplish it.

turned out to be super easy!

I bought 1 foot of .750 (.035" wall thickness) DOM steel tubing. I cut 2 pieces to fit into the bores of the clamp on sight base.....a little less than 1/2" wide. then, I took an angle grinder and cut a slit into these new bushings. finally, cleaned up the bushings with a quick sanding and then inserted them into the sight base......slid the sight onto the barrel, and tightened the allen bolts! done!!!!

the whole conversion was about $100:

tacticool22 barrel nut adapter..... $22.00
AR15 Delta ring assembly with barrel nut, m4 handguards, and front handguard ring........................ $21.00
Armalite .750" ClampOn sight base.....$45.00
1 foot .750 DOM tubing........$2.50

Very nice. The final product looks super clean. All it took was wanting to have a certain look and some ingenuity. Now everybody can copy this.

thanks man. It's all possible because of your barrel nut adapter!

Looks very, very good, QuadCam. Where would one find DOM tubing? I called a couple of metal suppliers but they seemed to indicate they could only get thin-walled stock by special order.

I already have the spacers thanks to Belt_Fed but I was going to use a pin on A2 post, now that I see this clamp on post I may just go that route, much easier than having to counter bore my barrel for a set screw!

Check off-road shops and racing shops. they should be able to get you DOM, they build cages out of it

race car chassis shops would have dom or chromoly tubing , but not likely thin wall .750" tubing! that's too small for race cars.

I picked it up a local metal supply shop. DOM stands for "drawn over mandrel" so the tubing is seamless! that's important for a nice fit on the barrel. also, the DOM tubing is nice and polished on the inside from the drawing process. (looks like a skeet barrel for a shotgun.)

Is there any issue with the gas block front sight being at the wrong height? Or does it match the height of the stock sight on the rail?

WOW! that looks really good! I'd like to see the gun completely assembled. Man I used to really like the rails on the 15-22, but for some reason seeing your mod with the front post and M4 hand guard makes it look all the more like an AR. Nice job, I might just have to follow suit...
