I live in one of those democrat-controlled nanny states with an AWB and one of the BIG no-nos is the adjustable stock.

I just bought my grandson's Christmas present and need to remove the pin in the stock, bring the stock to the next-to-forward-most position and then re-pin it.

Short of drilling out the roll pin, has anyone found a simple way to pull the pin?

Thanks.

You didn't do a forum search? :-)

Just kidding, here is the link:

Try removing it with an easy out tool. Its one of those tools for removing a broken screw or bolt.

Problem is, I've never seen one that small. The hole in the pin isn't more than 1/16th. A 5/64th bit is just a tad bigger than the hole.

Thanks, though.

Addendum: I did find a set at Home Depot that includes a 5/64". I guess I make a run to HD tomorrow. :)

The link that I posted shows all the steps involved with pictures and tells you what size drill bit to use. BTW, you aren't going to do anything illegal, right?

Just shortening the stock on the one I just bought for my grandson and then re-pinning.

The problem with the thread is the installation of the set screw makes it an illegal modification in Connecticut. I don't know about other states. There's not a gunsmith in this state that would do that mod; it makes the stock adjustable because the screw is easily removed. The odds of ever getting caught is slim, but not too many people in this state are willing to risk a felony conviction. :)

Instead of putting the set screw in, couldn't you just put a slightly larger pin in there. I could see a gunsmith charging an arm and a leg for that mod.

Well, so much for the screw extractor. Even the smallest is too big. I'm just going to drill it out and replace it with a larger pin.

Thanks for all the assistance.

Well, I finally got the stinkin' little pin out. I wound up drilling the stock from the other side and punching the pin out from the off side. I'll patch the off-side hole and use a larger pin after we decide the right length for my grandson.

Unlike the aluminum blocking pin in the 10-round long magazines, the stock roll pin is hard steel. Tough little sucker.

My recommendation is to forget all the other stuff and just drill from the off side and punch the pin back out - that took all of 30 seconds!

Hey Major, I just purchased a ny compliant 15-22. I'm interested in Unpinning and fully collapsing it the shortest length and repining it. Is this what u did?

Essentially, yes, although not all the way. I went to the next to last position in. That's the correct length for my grandson.

Every time I get all bent outa shape about the bunch of chowder-heads running my home-state of Kansas, I read about some of the ******* regulations some of you boys have to put up with in other parts of the Union and it gets my heart rate back down. The dim-bulbs in my state government seem hell-bent on pounding the place into the ground like a tent peg but at least they've left our firearms alone...for now. Yes, Kansas doesn't have many Democrats and the Republicans seem to be in the thrall of the far-right wing of the Party (slightly to the right of Attila the Hun) but it ain't no picnic if you aren't country-club rich and corporate-connected. And that's why I vote Libertarian! But anyway, I am very sorry to hear about all the stock-pins and stunted magazines and bullet-buttons out there and I hope things get better soon for y'all...of course, there are a couple of houses for sale in my area if you think you could stand a different breed of idiots in the legislature...

I just did mine and was easier then I thought. All I did was drill a hole same size as the pin on the opposite side. Pretty easy to determine where it goes and punched it through with a nail same size as pin. easy as that!
