Hi, I just just got myself a 15-22 for use in the UK. Due to UK gun laws etc we aren't as well informed about certain rifles as you guys and getting information is not that easy. I've searched the forum and while you discuss the trigger Spring replacements I'm a little confused and was hoping someone could help clarify something. Essentially I understand there are two main springs. The trigger Spring and the hammer Spring. You all talk about replacing both at the same time. My question is if the 15-22 essentially shoots all .22lr with no issues as standard why replace the hammer Spring. Surely this is the Spring that governs the strike. If you want to lighten the trigger only wouldn't you only replace the trigger Spring? Or have I really not understood this. Thanks.

When i put the JP yellow spring set in mine i only used the trigger spring, not the hammer spring, it made my trigger pull about 4.5lbs. Not a great improvement over the factory trigger but it felt better. I had read about light strikes with the hammer spring being changed so i only used the trigger spring.

Have since installed a 24C....no comparison. :D

A heavier hammer spring will increase the required amount of force to pull the trigger, albeit marginally.

The hammer spring puts pressure on the trigger sear surface. The stronger the spring, the more pressure on the sear surface. The more pressure, the more force required to overcome inertia.

Your point is still well taken - lightening the hammer spring TOO much can lead to light strikes. Some folks have no light strike issues when using the lighter springs.

HTH...

Not a Brit, but happy to help out...

Thanks for the advice. We don't get the spares and drop in sets you guys do and if they are available they are expensive. The mp15-22 moe here is the equivalent of $1200. So not cheap. Magazines are $48 and woo rounds of cci standard is $11. So not cheap lol. So Spring change is currently the main way forward.

Everything firearms related this side of the pond is very expensive, a spare 10rd mag for my Anschutz would set me back $77. There are a few good sources for kit that although may be way more expensive than you could get them over the pond, at least they are made available.

You are not only contending with the massive $ to £ price hike but also ITAR. However, there are a few S&W related sites that may help you out in the future.

ACP Shooting, Graham did a Magpul BAD lever for me and did the job perfectly.
AW Armoury, Adam is a fellow 15-22 owner have been in contact but yet to do any business.
Suffolk Rifle Company, deals in 15-22's
Black Rifle...also have some 15-22 related items.

These are a few of the companies that you can contact regarding sourcing things this side of the great firearm divide.

I'll let Rob1....tell you of the plight that seems to plague all UK dealers in 'AR-parts' though.
Take the mic....Rob1. ;)

Hope you enjoy this enigma of a rifle as much as i do. Oh and the general rule of thumb on this forum is........
'Without pics, it didn't happen':D

Hello Scubataz,

You get 15-22 upgrades from :
Riflemags.co.uk
Lantac
Brownells UK
Brownells US
Have a look.

Before you buy any other bolt on go faster goodies.
Start saving up for a CMC drop in 3.5lb trigger unit, quickest and easiest and best upgrade you can do for your Smith. , the other bits may look cool but the trigger is where its at!

(Disclaimer) Other trigger units are available!

As stonecutter says and also for me the CMC single stage trigger

was the way to go......drop in and forget it,no light strikes and

3.5lbs trigger pull.....one thing you will need if you go with a

drop in trigger is a set of S&W 15-22 dedicated anti rotation pins

as the receiver is slightly wider than a normal AR rifle....

At the moment Lantac have them at a good price

My understanding is the timney trigger doesnt need the anti roll pins. That when you tighten up the screws, the trigger housing wont move.
Is this correct?
Ive had my timney for over a year. Shot thousands of rounds. Havent had an issue yet.

You are correct LA...no anti roll pins needed with your trigger

Timney uses the screws to tighten down and should supply a

metal plate so as not to damage the polymer receiver...

whether the plate fits or not is another matter

My advice...shoot the gun. If you like the way it shoots, leave it alone and enjoy it. If not, look at spring kits, etc.
As they say in England, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

The trigger is the sec upgrade that made me enjoy the 15-22 that mych more.
The first is the lightning loader.
So quick to load 9 mags!
When I switch to my savage btvs and 10 round mags. Hand loading sucks!!!!

andy05 gave you some sound advice, shoot it and THEN decide if any upgrades are needed. Given the cost of the original rifle and the additional cost of parts, once you pop some caps, then you can see what, if any 'upgrades' you want.
I have an M&P 22 MOE and two ARs, one being a S&W Sport II, and most of the 'upgrades' I did were for my really for me. The most positive change was to my 22 MOE and that was to replace the factory extractor with an aftermarket.

Hi Keith

Is that the speed bolt release from NDZ performance you have on there? If so how did you get one as they say they don't ship to the UK. If its another brand can you give me some details please as I would really like to get one.

TIA

Adam
