Hoping I made the right choice. Watched every video, read every review. Just want to spend less on ammunition. When I go to the range I have a tendency to shoot more than a few hundred rounds.

All polymer makes me nervous, but I imagine I will get over it. Keep hearing folks are receiving rifles with loose barrels. I intend to buy tools but would prefer not to buy them immediately.

I tend to keep my guns stock. Spent 21 years with Milspec. I do believe I will turn this rifle into something, some may laugh at when they see it. This will be the fun gun. Years ago the kids talked me into putting a pistol scope on a Beretta Neos. That may have been the most fun we had at the range. Still talk about that 20 years later.

Any info or thoughts appreciated.

I like my 15-22. It may not be a tack driver but then, neither am I. It goes bang when I pull the trigger and puts a hole roughly where I want it.

Had mine for years. Use the furnished sights. Have squirrel hunted with and it knocked them out of the tree tops.

I've had mine now for 6-7 years and probably close to 1000 rds of various types/makes of 22lr thru it and I can't recall any issues with the rifle. I have other 22 rimfire that I use for target/hunting so my 15-22 is just my 'fun' gun when I just feel like burning ammo on steel plates, spinners, etc. I did add a few aftermarket goodies on it like Magpul pistol grip, butt stock and BUIS, Rise Armament Trigger, scope, Radian ambi controls and charging handle and a few other things. Great shooting 22 that's relatively accurate and just plain fun to shoot. You'll like it.

Where do you keep hearing the loose barrel deal? "Keep hearing" implies a constant and increased number of statements. Perhaps I should be concerned with mine if you can lead me to this high number of complaints.

I've had mine for years, I had reservations about the polymer also, but I have had no issues with the gun whatsoever. In all these years I have only had one malfunction and that was at a plate shoot where someone else loaded my mag. You do have to pay attention when loading the mags that the rounds are staggered. This is covered in the owners manual I believe.

I've never shot it for groups but a 4" plate at 25 yards is no problem.

Don’t sweat the polymer receiver. Sure, it will break of you run over it but baring that it will last for years. The bolt cycles on hardened steel rails and doesn’t touch the interior of the receiver. Ninety percent of the guys I shoot with every week use the 15-22’s, approximately 30 individual rifles represented. Some have upwards of 30,000 rounds through them with no problems except broken firing pins at approximately 15,000 rounds. Of these 30 rifles, there have been two loose barrels and one of them was with a replacement barrel nut and handguard, so that isn’t really a problem IMO. I personally own two and have had zero problems with them. I replaced the handguards with aftermarket metal free floats using the Tacticool conversion nut. The metal handguard made the rifle feel more like the M4.
Word of warning, if you want to upgrade the trigger, not all drop in units will hit hard enough for consistent ignition of rimfire ammo. CMC or the Palmetto clone work fine.

Model 15s are great , I own the 67 which the stainless steel version of the 15.....great guns!

Forgot all about the magazine deal. From near day 1 after learning about potential issues, I just naturally hold the magazine at a rearward angle as I load up the rounds. Tap the plate a time or two and move on.

You will like it. I have had mine for 11 years. No problems. Have a Nikon P-22 Scope on it. Also installed an aluminum charging handle that is wider to use with scope. (plinker tactical brand) Mine has the original picatinny rail hand guard (on all 4 sides) on which I installed Knights Armament military hand guards. You may want to get some 10 round magazines if shooting off a bench with bipod. The standard 25 round mags are a bit long for that.It is not picky on ammo but I have found that mine is most accurate at 50 yards with 40 grain round nose Mini-Mags.

OP has grabbed the sheer essence of this shooting hobby in my opinion. Those last statements " the most fun we had at the range." & "Still talk about that 20 years later." remind me of fun times with the kids (and other adults too) back when: To borrow some words from Barbara Mandrell: We were plasticool when plastic wasn't cool........... so Polymer, Fantastic Plastic, Nylon..whatever your thing is get out, bang away, be safe of course.........but HAVE FUN.

I don't have a 15-22 (yet) but "we" (kids, grandkids) still love the two old (June 1960) & (November 1967) Remington Nylon 66, one Mohawk Brown, one Seneca Green 22's and like the OP..we still talk about the good times.

I know.........wrong subforum.....but having fun is having fun!

I've put 1000's of rounds, mostly Aguila Super Extra, through mine. Important to disassemble and clean mags every few 100 rounds; easy task though. I've swapped out the buttstock and the grip to the same ones I prefer on full size 15's. The stock plastic "iron" sights are good enough. Never an issue with anything

My son and I have put many tens of thousands of rounds through our two. Only problems were a blown out ejector years ago (likely due to an overcharged round), and a couple of broken firing pins after 15,000 or more rounds each.

Polymer receivers not an issue - heck, I have a 5.56 AR SBR with polymer receivers (although those are steel reinforced at the stress points.)

The early 15-22 (mine) has actual metal sights which are very good. Guess plastic was a cost reduction move.

There were a couple of mentions of mag loading problems. The McFadden mag loader solves all of the loading issues and makes loading the mags as fast as emptying them.

I didn't keep stats. It's obviously not that big of a deal to me as I ordered one along with the barrel nut tool. Saw a few videos showing the loose barrel issue and print reviews as well. You are not required to believe me. I wouldn't know about an increased number of statements as I only began researching the rifle a month ago. I see no need to do your research for you. I posted what I believed to be accurate and you should always be concerned about potential problems with any firearm. Every firearm will begin having problems eventually. I know this because I ran several (5) military armory's during my career.

I brought my concern here because I knew there would be owners here that would tell me if I needed to be concerned. As I suspected, my concerns were not necessary.

Just felt the need to address that unsubstantiated remark of "keep hearing". It's words like that some take to heart when in reality, it's nothing more than baseless bs which can shine a poor light on an excellent product, gun, etc. Carry on.

I've had mine two years. Shot over 2000 rounds. Keep the bolt face clean. Research how to fix the possible ejector problem. Easy fix. Mine is a tack driver with CCI SV ammo at 25 yards. Have fun!
