Hello,
I have a f/s m&p 9mm & a m&p 9c. Love BOTH of them. Was just wondering if anyone owns both a shield 9mm & a glock g43. I was wondering what the pro's & cons were of both weapons. Especially any differences in accuracy between both guns. I need a cc weapon & cant decide between the two.

Thanks

I happen to have both and bought the Shield about a month or so before the Glock was released. I was looking for a slim 9mm, and didn't see the Glock release in the future.

I had heard such good things about the Shield on here, and from others I know, I figured I would give it a try.

Since getting the Shield it has become my EDC! It was found to be easy to shoot, very accurate and reliable. It carries well IWB and I hardly notice it there.

I found the Glock has eaten everything I have put through it without a hiccup. I, at first, struggled a little with how it was shooting so had someone shoot it that I know is a far better shot than I will ever be.

They displayed the problem was in the way I was going about it and explained that with the Glock you have to treat the trigger pull like a J frame revolver. Since then I have found it to be accurate (as IT always was) and enjoy shooting it.

I have not had enough time to truly run it through it's paces (minimum round count)and the holster that I would want for it has not been produced as of yet. Taking it to the range tomorrow and if anything changes I will let you know.

I did note that the Glock tends to fit in a pocket holster better but not sure I would carry it in that manner because I still have my J Frame for that.

Once it is deemed ready and the holster is produced I can honestly say I am not sure which direction I will go for EDC.

Thanks 326MOD10. The accuracy of the shield is the ONLY thing that makes me a little hesitant. I see alot of "drill video's" on IG & very few of the guys are using shields. I know m&p's are not meant to be target pistols...but still. Since I already have 2 m&p's & are very familiar with them, I will probably go with the shield

I'd go with the Sig.

I don't own a 43 but I've put about 300 rounds through one. I like my shield much more. Just feels better in my hand and is my main summer off duty gun. Not bashing the 43 at all since I'm actually a Glock guy and own 8 of them, and carry a G27 on duty. But between the two, for me it's the shield hands down. Just my opinion though

Shield vs Glock 43

Justin69, regarding your main question, you can't go wrong with either although I like the way the Shield fits my hand and I've been more than happy with it since I purchased it a couple of months ago. Also, it has greater capacity than the 43. I do disagree with your statement indicating the M&Ps are not good for target shooting. Before the Shield purchase, I got an M&P 5" barrel M&P Pro 9mm and it has been one of the most accurate guns I have ever owned. Attached are two targets that are blown up so they look larger than they are, the sheet of paper they are on actually contains five of these targets. When target shooting, the Pro is more accurate but it also has a 5" barrel. However, when I'm trying to shoot rapid fire at a target with a human outline on it, I find that I acquire the target better with the sites on the Shield and group double-taps just as good as the Pro. I think that is because I'm shooting indoors and the rear site on the Pro is blacked out. Anyway, I really like the Shield and have never had a misfire or jam with over 500 rounds through it. Regards, Elliot45

I haven't shot the G43 and probably won't, but I am perfectly happy with my Shield's accuracy. I too shoot my Pro Series better than the Shield, but at what I consider to be self defense ranges (<20 yards) it will do its job for me. Unless you are planning to use it in IDPA or something, I think you can take accuracy off your list of concerns.

I am not a Glock guy and I once owned a Shield. Great gun. But I held the two of them side by side yesterday and the Glock did look and feel lighter and skinnier.

I have both. And I have been shooting them side by side.I seem to shoot the glock 43 just a little low and the shield a little high at same distance.Shield does have apex installed. If I bear down and do my part I am a little more accurate with the shield. However all things considered I am more consistent with 43.
Probably because of all my years of using Glock. My dept is pretty much wed to glocks. So next off duty qualifaction 43 will probably become my on duty pocket gun.
But my shield will remain my off duty summertime belt gun.Backed up by my Glock 42 or 43 in pocket.
PS. Up untill a year ago I carried a j frame back up but for myself I found I could shoot the Glock 42 and now the 43 more accurately.

The Ruger LC9-S is smaller and lighter than both. And can be had in the Pro version without a manual safety and mag disconnect. My carry gun is an LC9-S with the safeties

kbm6893, the Shield I have doesn't have the manual safety either and I like the grip and appearance better than the Ruger. And frankly most people don't buy the Pro version you mention although that would be my pick if I were to go with a Ruger.

As long as you're happy. I had the Shield with the safety and that's why I got the Ruger with them. As far as appearance, while I like a handsome gun, there is no plastic sub-compact that is ever gonna win a beauty contest. For me it was weight and ease of carry and the Ruger beat the Shield.

Passed my CCW permit class with a Shield. My friend just bought a Glock 43. I went with the Shield. Recoil felt softer on the Shield, and I have better accuracy with it. Even my friend likes my Shield better than his Glock 43. I got my Shield for $339. He paid $499 for his Glock. The Glock didn't seem like it was any better or worth spending the $160 more for it. Plus the shield holds more rounds. In the end, you like what you like, so if Glock is what you want, that's fine for you. Good luck with your decision.

I've given the shield vs glock 43 too much concern. You are best served by selecting the firearm that fits your hand, points naturally on target and has a tolerable trigger.

I went with the Glock 43 .. this is not a range/target gun .. it is a gun that has to balance and fit my hand so I can draw and fire without using a weaver stance and proper sight alingnment .. in that I will most likely be shooting center mass and just using the front sight.

6 vs 7 rounds .. is what it is .. if you need a 7th round simply reload with another magazine .. magazines are small and compact; easily carried in a pocket or on your leg ..

I appreciate everyone's comments as I am also decking between the 2 guns right now I'm leaning toward the shield

my wife is also new to the concealed carry world, both her and my friend's wife liked the Shield over the 43 as far as grip was concerned. They both also stated the Shield felt better balanced in hand. Neither were around each other when they described this to me as well. Thought it was interesting to hear from their perspective. My friend who owns the 43, liked the softer recoil of my Shield.
