10mm PC recoil spring source

I did, no luck. I tried them, Galloway, etc. The shorter 10mm springs are advertised, but not the 5.6. Unless they fit the same? I am assuming not, but I am a gun newb, so not well-versed.

You can always ask customer service at S&W. They can probably steer you in the right direction.

I usually buy springs and cut them to fit my pistol for the load that I am using.

I had a delay going out to the range, so I took the rod assembly out and measured it. It is right at 3.5”, which is the same as the 4.6” barrel M&P 2.0, which has been on the market longer and has rod assemblies readily available online.
So…question answered! And rod assembly ordered. I may not need the 24lb spring if this version ends up not having the hardcast feeding problems as the previous 10mm edition, but I’ll have it just in case.

I'd be curious of the stock spring weight. I run 24lb wilson flat wire spring in my 1911 Tisas D10 w/ a full length guide rod. Runs good.

Range report with 40 rounds of Underwood 200 grain hardcast:
-one full mag drop
-one slight mag drop
-one F2F
So I will be upgrading the mag springs and the recoil spring.

Interesting though…husband just bought a Springfield XD-M Elite Compact 10mm. He was shooting Federal 180g to break it in and it had several F2F. Several as in about 10%. It got better after about 200 rounds, but was still concerning. Maybe a 10mm issue in general? In addition to S&W’s specific 10mm problems.

Keep us posted, please. I have a Ruger SR1911 10MM that is ported. Feeds everything I give it to shoot. Not sure what the strength of the recoil spring is, but it is stout. Now something else to look up.

So galloway precision does make full length guide rods for the M&P 10mm (4.6" barrel). Max spring weight is 22lbs, which should probably suffice for most loads... Problem is they have not seen the PC model to confirm whether the guide rod will/will not work. I offered to take picks of mine with measurements..

I took the rod assembly out of my PC 10mm and it measures the same as the 4.6 barrel. The extra length in the 5.6 is the ported end. I did order mine through Galloway. Once I confirm fit, I will email them to confirm.

New recoil assembly received. The one for the 4.6 inch fits my 5.6 perfectly.
I have not taken it for a test drive yet.
Pic for comparison. New 24lb assembly is on the left.

That's got to help keeping zero w/ a red dot too. Less beating. Galloway is sending me one too w/ a 24lb spring. Guess we are the guinea pigs, which is fine..

Mine came in yesterday. Dropped right in. Very manageable to cycle the slide. Hoping to get out one of these mornings and give it a run.

Did a quick trip to the range. Running 180gr factory and reloads ~1150. No issues cycling and don't anticipate there will be any.

Great to hear! I haven’t had a chance to run back out to the range yet. I did just get the new mag springs in the mail, so I’ll get those installed the run some more hardcast through it.
If all goes well, then I will have my big bear defense gun ready for prime time.

Groo here
Remember the 10mm PC is ported.
The downward thrust from the ports will delay the unlocking of the action.
You may find that the ports are self adjusting , the higher the pressure the more the delay.
I had a 10mm 1911 built with a ported barrel and the delay was so great that we had to use "Target" weight springs to get it to run correctly.

Interesting! A variable I did not consider.

Range report:

Installed the 24lb recoil assembly and the stiffer mag springs in 3 of my 4 magazines. I always number my magazines so that I know who the players are.

Ran 200gr target rounds through all four mags to make sure no difference. All ran fine, no failure to feed, no mag drops.

Shot a couple of boxes of Grizzly 200 gr flat nose hard cast. No failures or mag drops. Ran beautifully.

Loaded up a magazine with Underwood 200gr flat nose hard cast and the pistol started dropping the mag immediately, first two shots spat the magazine out like a bad bug. And F2F several times.

I have a few boxes of HSM 200gr hard cast coming. I did shoot some of the HSM a couple of weeks ago and I don’t remember having a problem with it but I was mixing brands at the time. I want to isolate the issue, so keeping it separate this time.

Persnickety 10mm pistols are not just a S&W thing. Husband’s new Springfield was having a 20% F2F on 180gr target rounds. He went through 300 rounds to break it in and was still having significant issues. He was about ready to send it to Springfield for eval, but figured out yesterday it doesn’t like aluminum cased ammo. He ran a box of copper cased bullets with absolutely no problems.
