Bodyguard 2.0 short review 1000 rounds
8 days ownership, 250 rounds shot today, 1000 rounds total
Great gun with nickel dime issues. Dislikes - rear sight needs pulled to remove slide plate, don’t care for wide rear notch
Nice trigger, shop says 4.5lbs with their cheapo gauge - wish trigger was like 3lbs though
Slide stop works great - initially it was stiff but I can release the slide now even thought that’s not it’s intended purpose
Magazines are stiff to load by hand for me. 10 rounder has loosen and I can load by hand if I’m not lazy. Only can do 9 rounds in 12 magazine by hand before using loader. 12 round follower will bind on 3 round loaded - follower will catch side of magazine if angled wrong. Magazines need a firm rap to seat in well but work just fine
Polished both ramp areas after 750 rounds. Today I had 6 failure to feed but was able knock slide into battery each time. I’m assuming I need to look at recoil spring as next culprit, I’ll check with S&W

Update - 1200 rounds total in under 2 weeks ownership. Removed lip/edge on lower ramp assembly, last 200 rounds shot with no FTFs/battery issues.

Thank you. Wanted to see if it was a similar situation as what I saw in this video:

Oh wow! That is a great price. But the local shooting range does not allow steel case rounds... sucks when you just want to practice and run through several hundred rounds...

I went into my local BiMart a couple of weeks ago and picked up a case of Fiocchi brass-cased fmj for $229.

Nice! When I need ammo, I’ll look for the best price, I’m not picky with branded range ammo. Sometimes I can get New Republic for around $240 shipped. No good deals for me locally, best prices around $300 before tax.

To me loading a typical magazine is an invitation to tear a fingernail.
Haven't you heard of Uplulas? They're great, inexpensive and easy to use. Problem solved. Don

I've put about 300 rounds through my BG 2.0 mix of FMJ brands (PPU & S&B) and JHP (XTP and Speer GD) with zero problems of any kind. The 12 round mag I can only load 11 in (don't have an Uplula loader thing).
For me the wide U rear notch is fine. Quick acquisition and this is a close-range gun; I wouldn't use it to try to engage targets at 25 yards. At 7 yards I can keep all shots in a 6 inch bull quick firing which is plenty accurate enough for defensive purposes. With slow fire I can cut that in half.

Where can this deal for the case of .380 be found?
I paid like $20 the other day for 50 rounds of PMC
Thanks

New Republic is targetsportsusa.com's house brand. I cannot remember who makes it for them and have never used any. But I have never heard anything negative about it.
Edit to add: Never heard anything about it until now. Sounds like the 380 version is unreliable in the BG 2.0. Makes me wonder about the other calibers too, its off my list of ammo to try.

I have 300 rds thru my BG 2.0, 50 of those were with New Republic. I had multiple FTF with this ammo alone which was the first time I used it. No other malfunctions with any other brand of ammo including WWB, Fiochi, Hornady and American Eagle.

I’ve bought a lot of New Republic because it’s cheap. It runs fine through my broken in P365-380 but in a new Bodyguard 2.0 I had three FTRBs out of 50 rounds. No problem with 150 rounds of other brands through the 2.0. I attribute the failures to “weaker ammo”’through a new, stiff gun.

My trigger also measures 4.5lb with my cheap gauge. My feed ramp looks fine so hopefully I have no issues with feeding. Hopefully it shoots where I point it as well but my front sight could be off a hair.

Try measuring it with a snap cap in the chamber if you havnt. Mine was pulling the slide slightly back before releasing the striker when the chamber was empty.

Put 200 rds through mine today, other than shooting a bit high left @15 it was flawless. Good enough for stay out of jail distance.
12 rd mag was a bear to load even with an Uplula. Maybe next time might bring a sledge hammer.

Not sure I will load mine to 12 either because it seems like it puts a lot of pressure on the mag catch.

Take magazines apart and clip a coil or two off the bottom of the spring.
Don’t be afraid.

When I get around to shooting again, I’ll troubleshoot further to see if it’s just one mag or both.

Strong disagree. Improve your mag loading technique or purchase a maglula.

A new one for me...! What's the problem with steel cased (vs. brass or aluminum) ammo at a range?
I'd think they could be picked up with a magnet?
Cheers!

They are probably reselling the cases to reloaders or as scrap metal. I am guessing they do not allow aluminum either.

BG 2.0 Non Typical Primer Strike Signature
Anyone else have a strange primer strike firing pin mark? Mine has a drag/skid mark in/out of the round firing pin depression. Not sure when this issue/mark occurs. I would assume after firing/ejection since the pin doesn't move in the firing pin bore. The drag mark was about 1.5x the pin depression diameter when first fired. After getting the 2.0 back from S&W warranty repair ("no problem found" per the tester), the impact depth of the firing pin strike was significantly changed (much deeper and larger diameter) so there is a slight abnormal mark now (about 25% of firing pin impact diameter. BTW - The mark is aligned with the top of the gun.

I’m not a gunsmith or an armorer, but I do know a little about the laws of physics and mechanical engineering.
My BG2 has striker drag. How “bad” it is?...I don’t know.
I feel that if the end of the striker, tip end, is being subjected to a lateral force repeatedly that it may cause metal fatigue and eventually break the tip of the striker. Again… I’m strictly hypothesizing.
I do not see this amount of deformation and striker drag on the casings from my two P365s.
It would be helpful if an armorer or gunsmith expert could jump in on this issue.

My BG2.0 trigger breaks at 3lbs 12oz.
Magazine follower tails can be trimmed to avoid hanging up in the mag release holes at the third round. Uplula makes loading full mags easy.
You got one with a tight chamber. Mine was fine but shooting buddy got one and we used a 10mm carbide impregnated rubber Dremel bit to hone the chamber and cured the problem and now runs perfectly.

Sorry, tried it, didn't help. It's a design problem; Smith cut things a little too fine. Tried cutting the mag spring, and even taking a little off the follower. Naaah, didn't solve the problem.
I load 10 in the 10 round version, and load it with an open slide; spare mag only with 9, if I need a reload against a closed slide.
Nature of the beast.
