I dropped into Academy Sports to look at ammo and to purchase a Bodyguard 2.0 .380acp pistol, especially since i received the emails about S&W sales up tp $100 off. Unfortunately the one i was looking at was not on sale, but still respectable at $399. There was a “customer” in front of me discussing at length which is better - MOA or MILs, and which is more accurate (that statement almost made me laugh out loud but I held it together and kept my mouth shut). After 30 seconds of listening to that conversation i decided to retreat to a local gun store down the street so I wouldn't have to debate that philosophical conundrum. Small store had exactly what I wanted at same price so i purchased it there. Always happy to support the little guys. I checked it over thoroughly - both front and rear sight aren’t centered on slide (no big deal, easy fix), recoil spring and guide looked good.

I fired it this afternoon at a friend’s place. Ran without a hiccup. I did notice that the front cap on the recoil guide looks like it has moved forward, it now sticks through the hole in the slide about 1/16” of an inch. I have a feeling it is going to come apart, I will deal with it if/when that occurs. The safety is stiff as all get-out, it is starting to smooth out as I work it on and off a few hundred times. I haven’t tried loading the mags to full capacity. Overall I am happy I finally purchased one

If you do incur guide rod issues try one from Galloway.

I replaced mine with the standard model and around 300 rounds later no issues. My OEM one didn't have any function issues. It was just a pain to reassemble.

In my opinion way better quality and a worthwhile upgrade.

Oh yah congratulations on the new gun :)

I believe that the portion of the guide rod sticking out of the front of this gun is an intentional design feature known as a standoff device. The reason is to keep the slide from going out of battery if it comes in contact with something. Trying pressing an (empty) gun against something like a wall and you will see that they slide does not go out of battery. Try that with some other guns with the slide extending past the frame (like this one) or a flush fit and it may go out of battery depending on the angle and pressure applied. A common complaint from the revolver crowd is that semi-autos won't fire on a contact shot because they go out of battery. This will not entirely eliminate the possibility, but it lessens it. To me, it was one more reason why I believe that this gun was well thought-out.

I’m waiting for that to come back into stock.

Though my original one is working just fine.

Well..... it is an innovative little pistol. Amazingly light and small. It has some “well thought-out” features. However, S&W dropped the ball on other design and quality control issues that are well documented by lots of published testimony.

When the pistol is fully assembled the guide rod will sometimes protrude about 1/16". I have about 1200 rounds through my BG 2.0 now and it works the way I need it to.

I'm getting ready to buy another one so I don't have to feel compelled to clean my carry gun every time I shoot it, which is frequently. I also can use it as a T&E gun for new and occasional shooters. (We don't have rental ranges around here.)

I have the Galloway spring and it also sticks out though a rounded design.

I looked at the Galloway setup on their website, it is only a single spring on a metal guide rod, not a double spring within a spring setup like what comes from the factory. Kinda surprised to see this, wonder why?

No idea however one youtuber bought and tested it. So far so good, I'd probably pick one up when they come back into stock.
